1. The hours have been long, I count them
And in my heart is anxiety and despair raging

2. I ask myself, will I see you and will you fulfill
As these pouring tears have fulfilled

3. I swear by your face, do not fail me
By your face which the infatuated with beauty disbelieve

4. I will meet you, will I meet you? I am in despair
Battling the terrors of life yet persevering

5. When your eyes shine, the longing ignites
When it ignites, storms ignite in the hearts

6. Eyes of eloquent glances, enchanting
Eyes able to conquer hearts

7. A cheek that says to the breeze, its nectar
Is juice extracted from a cheek where the soul was pressed

8. I will meet you this evening, we will meet
If you are oppressed, I am the victor

9. If you flee from my tyranny when you are lost
With folds of misguidance in the darkness

10. I will meet you this day when the night is moonlit
Embracing the fires of passion and conversing

11. I will hear a voice, omen of sorcery in it
And I am enchanted and your voice a sorcerer

12. Whisper when you come, my soul in a tone
That causes cracks in it for the lover

13. Give me hope that you are coming
And that you visit me in the night’s slumber

14. My wishes from my heart loudly proclaiming
That you, oh soul, are coming for the meeting

15. This waiting has been long, it has wasted me
For your delay, a decisive sword blunted

16. I owned so complain, and leave injustice willingly
For love is not for the pampered beauty forgiving

17. Come, my sweetness is not far
Nor am I a captive with a captor conversing

18. Muhammad, this face I knew it
To it in the crevices of my heart, bonds

19. O son of Suleiman, greetings and joy
Flowing from a kind, forbearing grandfather

20. Your father, my son, I rejected his opinion in life
Yet he was not deceitful nor cunning

21. A life he sees what he sees, and I
Am pleased and patient with his nature

22. Muhammad, my matter and yours, I
Do not know what the fates intend

23. I looked upon your face and drew inspiration from your father
Who is traveling today in the valley of life

24. Muhammad do not grieve, your grandfather is present
Muhammad do not grieve, your grandfather is present

25. I will sacrifice my soul as ransom for your youth
Indeed only the oppressed in truth gambles

26. If the father does not attend his child’s birth
The grandfather’s heart is filled with fatherhood

27. Muhammad o revelation of life, o youth
For whom in my heart there are raging passions

28. Come to my heart, come and do not say
That I am a madly loving poet

29. My heart has gone mad, mad with madness
And spears of passion have risen in my heart

30. Turn your charming glances for a moment
To know that I keep the covenant awake

31. I will be fair, this is you, I profess
Good tidings to him whose white days smile

32. You came to my heart so its sorrows departed
And I began to play with life and prosper

33. You will read my poetry, you have read with eyes
That when they looked, they almost translated my soul

34. You will understand my poetry, you understood in a glance
And the composer of this melody, if he willed, would understand

35. You came and my soul presses out its passion
I will be saved if I purify my soul and submit

36. Today I long, today I yearn
The dreams of slumber at night dream of you
