1. We found faults in speech so we made
Praise of your lineage an extension

2. And we emptied what was in our chests, so praise
Overflowed before lineage for you unlocked

3. And we set about praising you, so we lent
An ear to the hearts of poems, drawing from them inspiration

4. And we split open the faces of passion with
The white of your splendid efforts with dew made clear

5. You planted in the soil of chests gifts
That bore fruit and affection sincere

6. How many broken ones have you mended
And destitute ones have you given rest

7. And wild lands you calmed with resolve
Until you made them forget ferocity

8. And speechless guarantors you extended
In words until you made them eloquent

9. The family of Sâmân you made famous
So westward efforts succeed and prosper

10. You perfected the position of ministry through Ahmad
A fire running through the flint and steel

11. If the kingdoms were given voices
They would stand praising him

12. Enamored with praise, tempted by
Gaining praise, thrilled by gentleness

13. Sleeping only hoping
To see the specter of one resting

14. O Abū Naṣr, who supported the king
And made al-Manṣūr and al-Saffāḥ forgettable

15. The earth was too narrow for you, so you sought
A peninsula, the sea and sky your breadth

16. And if the treasuries overflowed with floods
None would do but the open land

17. So congrats for a house that contains mountains
From you of gathered sand dunes

18. It being the twin of ministry from what
Increased the proof of its happiness unlocked

19. A chest spacious as your chest that
Exceeded hopeful thoughts' expanse

20. It plants in its atoms from refinement
Trees that bear successful fruit

21. With the music of gaze in which errors of glance
And ideas find respite

22. Its courtyard fills eyes with brilliance
Its bowl fills chests with joy

23. Built of silver and tiled in chalk
Flattered by your gift untrammeled

24. Its soil of amber mixed with musk
If the breeze blew, exhaling

25. Porticoes atop boulders
Bowing in prostration

26. Each garden dressed in spring's gown
Wrapped in green

27. Between each corner I see like
A meadow made into a carpet

28. Its water irrigating western gardens
A gulf of carpets spreading

29. A dye from the blood of hearts, whoever
Sees it quivers, thrilled

30. The gardens' crying from the downpour is but
Shyness from their disgrace being exposed

31. Its furnishings resemble what adorns
Its youths, the morning their blood

32. Its doors like gathered companions
Once shut then opened again

33. Its curtains spread like the peacock
A wing in each entrance

34. Its cups like suns
Risen by the houses' atoms in the morning

35. Its bracelets like forearms
Bent under their weight

36. Its homes like castles
Ready for spears to clash

37. Its porch spread out
Like hands of nobles relaxed

38. Gardens, if I were in Paradise
I would wish no other proposal

39. And if cups circle in it
You see eternal bliss then none forbidden

40. From each charming glance collects
Roses from his cheeks and apples

41. And if the flutes respond to the reed in a voice
And the bulbuls respond to the gazelles in call

42. In rhythms that remove worries
And keep joy binding

43. Suns rise like stars whenever
Tasseled suns shaken from it, spears

44. The glow of cupbearers, wine and
Goblets there negated the need for lamps

45. And if the braziers blaze with embers
Their winds revive spirits

46. So congrats for a garden of Eden
You have guaranteed, O master untiring

47. So race with time in its arenas
Outstripping life and morning

48. And fill thought with your beauty
Do not evade or toss away

49. If I paused my eyes on what
I have said, no rest could soothe me
