1. Oh, if only I knew which of Your blessings to thank
And which of Your abundant gifts to mention

2. You have granted me great favors beyond worth
And shielded me from what I fear and dread

3. He who hopes for caliph Yusuf as a master
Will find no aim too far nor path too difficult

4. I, a slave of Ibn Nasr in truth
Am aided against all who opposed me in life

5. With you I warded off days that would wrong me
So your help in my hands is a drawn sword

6. You have granted me the purpose I hoped for
One like you does good and values

7. You have given me in the king’s court a dwelling
By which the world and faith are delighted

8. Near a dome whose place is most noble
By your rule, news and reports flow from it

9. In it appears the throne of the kingdom
You illuminate its rays and make it brilliant

10. Around it are the stars of your soldiers
Your face makes the veils luminous like the moon

11. By it rest ships for the damsels
It is a garden amidst the clouds

12. Yours is the kingdom made greater by following it
And Caesar’s generosity pales in compare

13. Dawn hails you from it, radiant
And your palm makes generosity a raining cloud

14. However much the garden thrives by fragrance and fruits
Your praise or your palm has given more and made fragrant

15. If the sun’s sight is brilliant and lofty
Your sight or your ascent is more radiant and gleaming

16. By my master I have attained nobility and heights
And donned its splendid robes

17. He is the victorious master whose palm’s generosity
Is fresher than rain or brighter than the sun

18. A determined, reverent, humble imam
Gentle, generous, bright of face and flowering

19. He extends his rule over the eras whenever
A tribe traces lineage to the Prophet and his companions

20. In his war, a sword rests and wanes
In his peace, a pulpit and throne are adorned

21. His face appears from it brighter with a mark
And the horizon has a face dusted with kohl

22. He will make every idol flourish with monotheism
And the lands of enmity will be folded while your standards spread

23. My master, praising you is beyond me
One who tries will falter or fall short

24. My tongue falls short thanking for what I attained
But one who makes the effort to thank is excused

25. I have only to show the days praising
I intricately describe the heights and esteem

26. You have always been the defender of the Hanifi faith
The lands of enmity vanish and your standard rises
