1. Why do the riders not stay to enjoy its hospitality,
And linger in those meadows prolonging their questions?

2. Exhausted with longing for the one who rose on the horizon of their tents,
Like the sun taking clouds for its veil.

3. How many passionate souls pray with all their essence,
She has prayed for him but did not grant him her union,

4. He shows his yearning when the lightning of passion flashes,
And when the downpour on Najd pours, its rain pours for it.

5. He craves her features, so why has she not given
From them acceptance and her cheek and left side?

6. The zephyrs thought that when they blow gently
They soothe souls, so they stirred up their confusion.

7. The fire of his passion guides the delusions of ecstasy at night,
But does not guide his imagination to her.

8. How strange! Why can he not find guidance
With passions that enflame his smoldering embers?

9. By God, how many rays of light are gathered
Until defects and perfections unite!

10. Gently, o confidant of passion,
For it is the zephyr that has changed its state.

11. These are her dwellings, so rouse their expanses
And race your camel, you will gain their totality.

12. And look at the moons of their tents, drawing
From the halos of those domes their perfection.

13. For how long will the riders head for the Pleiades,
When their resolve requires haste?

14. The camels are agitated and the howdahs sway
Until you think which of them will tire.

15. They inclined to bounding over the dwellings, so she climbed
To traverse with them their mounds and sands.

16. Why do the riders not yearn for her, when for so long
Her distant journeys have been praised?

17. How many desires have been turned away from her after
They came to her while she was fresh water?

18. So let your tears flow in her dwellings, for when
The covenant of the clouds fails to find her ruins,

19. How many senders have turned back in them,
Shunning exposure to the sun when it poured for her,

20. And how many branches swayed in its orchard
When its clouds hovered over it!

21. The antelopes did not appear in it, so it made you see
The gazelles polishing their smooth coats.

22. The breeze opened its folds in it, and from
The garment of spring it clothed itself in apparel.

23. For it is the meadows, residing in it and resting
On its rivers and shade.

24. For the desperate lover, if you wish, or the seeker,
Prepare, you will attain its burdens and beauty.

25. And when the barefoot came to meet it in welcome
The prayer of its prayers fulfilled its hopes.

26. It is the seat of the kingdom that became
A downpour and salvation if it stays to enjoy its hospitality,

27. The dwelling of an Imam who rose on the Caliphate’s horizon
Radiating its beauty and majesty over it.

28. He is the supporter of the religion, the Caliph Yusuf
A king whose cave is the refuge of kings,

29. A king whose face’s radiance guides
To the paths of guidance those gone astray.

30. A king whose open hand’s rain, whenever
It gives drink to seekers, pours its plenty.

31. Trustee of the Caliphate, he took command
So his chivalry does not complain of scarcity,

32. O you whose palm resembles rain clouds
The rain clouds have not competed with it in generosity,

33. If familiar with the mansion of dew, this recognizer
I would attain his bounty and say it is for her.

34. For the daybreak of light has come from him
With the meteors of guidance, perfecting its completion.

35. He has looked with anticipation on the abodes of jihad
To its knights, securing their deeds.

36. He has not traversed the horizons of the regions and their corners
Except healing their wounds.

37. His chivalry and aid attend him,
In peace and war, wherever he descends or rises.

38. Resolve blazes in battle naked
And calmness weighs heavy in dignity.

39. He rests in the war against enemies, his swords
Unsheathed with their blades, never satisfied.

40. His spears, without throwing, for so long
Have wanted to prove themselves to the enemies.

41. Who can equal in noble character a family
That God has mentioned the best of its men?

42. A people, when they don armor you would think them
A lion whose den cubs have entered in its midst,

43. And when it is removed from them, they are palm trees
Whose forms remain over their bodies.

44. Their praises shake them, as though
The breeze stirred a lote-tree bending it over.

45. These are the armies and pulpits - if they appear
You will find them its horsemen and men.

46. Is not your noble father a hero
Whose defense the swords have praised, vying?

47. The necks of the infidels submitted to his rule
So God desired by his power to humiliate them.

48. And our Master al-Ghassani by his Lord suffices as
A lion who fiercely attacks its heroes in battle.

49. How many ties of unbelief he has undone
And strongholds of idolatry whose bonds he has untied!

50. How many a fortress did he raze until he came
And shocked it, destroying what it built up tall!

51. By your tribe in Mecca's gifts, there is no glory
But that your grandfather attained it.

52. Qais bin Sa`d, whose character you know
His horses, God's horses, galloped among them.

53. The ‘Uzza were proud with might
So the religion of guidance conquered and removed them.

54. And victory for the Ansar whose successor
If he willed could make the flowers of its sky rain.

55. How many groups for misguidance and its partisans
Came for a decisive matter, sealing their terms!

56. They did not hope, had it not been for your legacy,
To extend themselves and live on.

57. So victory comes forth if you want to meet it
And fortune strikes if you refuse to fight it.

58. By God, your intention which you have purified
To accept your Lord's decree in its states and endings

59. Has guided the world to give you glad tidings
That you may attain delight on the horizon of glory,

60. Where the crescent, however high it rose or peaked
It only did so to shine with good fortune from it.

61. The Marinids and those close to you, their position
Is to show you their delegations in awe,

62. Seeking guidance from the Caliph of their Lord,
And seeing acceptance as the greatest of gifts for them,

63. No connoisseur has grasped the essence of his attributes
From which, when examples are given, their likenesses.

64. Is his face a full moon or a morning sun?
Or is his countenance anticipating its risings?

65. Welcome to them, whose riders have arrived
At your generous abode, unloading their belongings.

66. They have come, happy with a state
Whose factions God has granted victory and family.

67. And they have followed the approach of your affection which
Your loyalists have attained guidance from its misguidance.

68. This - and your good treatment of creation has arrived
So the beautiful gifts of craft have attained it.

69. And the faces of glad tidings have welcomed it
With good news and pleasure in their receptions.

70. Thus your right hand with it is ever merciful
All existence hopes it will unleash its rain.

71. Far from it! A seeker is not thirsty after you
Have quenched every hopeful with its current!

72. The wisdom of the Giver guided your reason
Calling your horses to tour its expanse.

73. Its terraces for your kingdom are a verse
Recited, legitimizing its spoils.

74. By God, it has loosed horses,
Steeds showing you the swords’ sliced heels,

75. Bearing warriors - if you supported them all
The land of enemies would shake with an earthquake.

76. Lightly they will descend willingly toward them while the land
Has brought out its valuables from their spoils.

77. For you will see the regiments against the enemies or in amity
Sacrificing for God or pouring themselves out.

78. These are the swords, the horses’ playground
That have thrown the hearts of enemies into terror.

79. When the white swords are bared for a raid
They will wear the stirred-up dust as their garments.

80. For when the processions stretch out on its expanse
What are the stars in the sky and what are they?

81. How excellent as firewood, and how wondrous when
The racers’ horses raced with their galloping!

82. Kindling in the hearts of the envious burning embers
While the fire has not displayed with it its ignition.

83. By God, how many images adorned in it
Almost embody in the eyes their forms!

84. If their shapes expressed themselves in speech
They would clarify for the observers their puzzle.

85. O refuge of the archers, your palm whenever
The rainclouds ceased, ceased the hopes.

86. For calligraphy and the calligrapher therein a verse
However long it showed you its disputes and trials.

87. And indeed you have gazed out on the Caliphate from a watchtower
In which you revealed for eyes its crescent.

88. So woe to it when you stayed in its horizon
The sun of guidance we do not fear its setting!

89. And congratulations on the possession of glorious power that
Your ascendance toward it has ever inclined!

90. And woe to your successor whom you have appointed
With bounties stretching over him their shade,

91. Until he is inspired by your satisfaction to bare
His hand and send out in battle its lions!

92. For the servant, what praises can be recited? He does not
Fear forgetting them or ignoring them.

93. And for your supreme kingdom are gifts of mercy
And noble deeds it does not require neglecting.

94. For with them I have restrained for a time worries
That have assailed me with their arrows.

95. You have bestowed on me what I cannot thank properly
For the bounties you have generously conferred on me in plenty.

96. The description of servants, when you have insisted on piling up
The means of your sustenance, preventing their replacement.

97. So to you from the beauty of praise is an anklet
Eloquence has submitted to praising you.

98. It has come to show you from prosody pearls
The night ofseparationstringed on its necklace.

99. Its gardens poured clouds of dew
Not fearing after them drought.

100. And its rhymes left praising you that my mind
To you has obeyed, prolonging them.

101. And for you are the best hopeful for whom it has listened
And carried whatever leaned of its enclosure and pasture.

102. Aggrandize with your state which I compose
Its qualities, and all have listened to it.

103. You remain, O noblest of kings, immortalized
So by the glory of your victory its hopes have been delivered.

104. The wilderness all asked God for you
Long life - and He has answered their request!
