1. I gave Abu Kamil
a drink of yellow wine,
١. سَقَيتُ أَبا كامِلِ
مِنَ الأَصفَرِ البابِلي
2. and I gave the same to the temple priest,
and to every virtuous youth.
٢. وَسَقَّيتُها مَعبَداً
وَكُلَّ فَتّى فاضِلِ
3. For me is their sincere affection,
and my cup of wine makes them joyful.
٣. لِيَ المَحضُ مِن وُدِّهِم
وَيَغمُرُهُم نائِلي
4. And I have no desire in them
except for an ignorant envier.
٤. وَما لا مَني فيهِمُ
سِوى حاسِدٍ جاهِلِ
