1. With my soul that I strive towards with my innermost being,
And with the sanctity of my body from which I have refrained,

2. My heart longs for it, my passion is for it, I exist through it,
And the memory of it is with me, while my lament is with it.

3. Though I am most deserving of striving, if only
It were difficulties I endured and met head-on.

4. But time refuses our coming together,
So with an apparition my mistress honours her servant.

5. Thus too her elder sister, to those whose light is their worship,
Comes even if they shun all effort towards her.
