1. For whom do you gracefully move, O Saad
Do you wander in the valley and help in Najd

2. Like the arrows of the unerring archer
Arabs who aim surely towards the target

3. They have the murders of the innocent
Blackened by the news of calamities

4. Hunters heading to the meadows of death
With no honour but the pure meadows

5. Clamouring, perceiving the smell of fox
Every distant valley has an ignited firebrand

6. Like the bending of the eyebrows are warriors
Bending their slender waists however they wish

7. I say to their guide: Gently, they are
But remains of bones wrapped up in skin

8. I scolded the riding camels when they startled
For their weakness, not for vigour or firmness

9. Do you not see them in the forms of young women
Standing like captives, tied up

10. That is but because of love that maddens them
What they show cannot be hidden from you

11. Why else would the stallion shy from them?
The neighing of a mare startles, the illness of desire infects

12. They saw the lightning flash at night, it scared them
The sparkling of lightning and fuel over fuel

13. The memory of clouds reminded them
So they sought refuge in teardrops from the heat of passion

14. Longing was brought to them from every side
With no escape from that longing

15. After the beauty of their faces left
Tears flow down their cheeks

16. Times changed after they enjoyed them
What will the free experience in hostile times?

17. It almost makes them die of misery
For those departed who cannot be brought back

18. May God water the sides of Hajar from my eyes
When she begs the clouds but finds no rain

19. Keeping the memory of days past in her plains
Bringing together the gazelle and lion in harmony

20. We enjoyed pleasures till we were satiated
And we were like a pearl necklace

21. Greetings to those lands though abandoned
The houses of my loved ones and days of friendship

22. Who will convey to my loved ones
That I am a lover near or far

23. I remembered them while passion lies latent
In my heart like the spark in solid stone

24. Did they remember the days of love when they left?
Did they know I'm still true to those days?

25. My eyes were not lined with kohl after them
As were lined their eyes after me

26. I wouldn’t have complained if I met them
After times estranged me with separation and avoidance

27. But fate is against me, yet an ally
With it I raised my status and strengthened my glory

28. If God wills, he shows me in this life by his grace
Face to face what's said of the eternal garden

29. And he guides me to his generosity which presents its chastity
And does not deny favour to the rising Crescent

30. The light of Muhammad's family appears in him
As shone the Indian sword from its sheathe

31. The light of his forehead almost reveals
His noble lineage and guiding nobility

32. Born of honourable Imam fathers
Rightly guiding by God's command to righteousness

33. They were raised in the burrows of glory until they grew
Above the steeds and the plumed horses

34. So I have with them the bond of allegiance—why not?
They were not created but as deserving ties and pacts

35. If one aspect of their description comes
I read on their events Surat Al-Hamd

36. For I was raised by them since the cradle to grave
I live in comfort by their generosity

37. And I wouldn't be in Baghdad without their kindness
Quenching my thirst and living in plenty

38. Blessings to one whose wealth still enriches me
And reminds me of David's days

39. He is the vast, roaring sea to the hopeful
Did minds comprehend his limits?

40. He has the lightning of pouring rain yet no
Thunder like your father’s—not at all!

41. You are not like gushing springs in their commotion
With your generosity and provision

42. I angered rivals till you found me
Filling the age’s breasts with hatred

43. You gave Abu Salman to all the people
The desert was not frightened when you were absent

44. The hopeful were not deprived of your virtues
Whose taste at my hands is made lawful

45. My soul ransoms you, and all people
Not just me among them all

46. You rise above the nobles of Hashim’s sons
And destroy their towering glories

47. You were kind, then you changed
Benefiting at times, failing at others

48. You are like a sun in the sky
But the radiance of the sun is veiled by cataracts

49. I bear witness that there is no god but Him
The nectar of your palms is sweeter than honey

50. The blessed Eid returned your happiness
So you gave tidings after that of return

51. To you, so I present unto you verses
Beauties narrated, not out of obligation or effort

52. A client of your hands that are sought in pardon
Your poet known for wit and wisdom
