1. We did not fulfill the right to weep long
For the abodes, out of desire

2. O my friend, companion, and confidant
Stand with me among the tall date palms

3. To weep and wail their right
For the camels are exhausted as you see

4. The journey eats what you see of their thinness
Stand with it so it can rest from what ailed it

5. Tie its reins, for the journey has exposed it
That which has exposed us to misery and leanness

6. The passion of love has gripped it since it rode it
The cheeks and the wrists let its steps go

7. Leave its nonsense that agitates it
And rest it a little, for the journey has tried it

8. It has become emaciated from its withers and wrists
It proceeds after being watered to roll

9. A liver boiling with its bile, praying
In hopes that your water has reached it

10. Quench its thirst from a spring and urn of water
Perhaps it will put out the flame of bile

11. Leave it today, may you never lack solitude
If you try to cut your hand, it will seek connection

12. When you walk with the mount, then go slowly
And be gentle with it, for it is only

13. Gear I have prepared for arrival
So the square pool of goodness gave drink

14. Pleasant pools from which it drank and gave drink
The soul attains what it desires from it

15. What bliss it is, for the lovesick and enamored
Free of discomfort and arduous ascents

16. How we have sported with every antelope
And drank in every blossoming meadow

17. The sun at rest from the grasp of a shining full moon
And cups of joy were passed to us

18. From lips whose sips encompass kisses
Beautiful faces that please you and purely describe

19. Lips that speak of wine most purely
For the dimples grant honor when they torture

20. And the waters of beauty drip gentleness
Above a cheek of youth, smooth

21. We have enjoyed the pleasures of life in bliss
And with it we have lived blissfully

22. In gardens of beauty where the air is fragrant
And the birds of bliss trill joyfully

23. With a pleasant murmur and sigh
What a life it was, and how sweet!

24. What days of purest spirit and most precious
For youth that stayed but briefly

25. Has passed, ended, gone, and deserted
Like a sun whose setting is foretold

26. Where are my people, proud among people
With disdainful pride and loftiness

27. Brought down by fate, which grinned wickedly
As time bared its teeth, that traitor

28. Destiny seized the people of prohibition in the jaws of injustice
How many generous souls have suffered pain

29. While many wicked enjoy bounty!
Fate is indeed the enemy of the noble

30. It is a ladder for every despicable villain
And war upon every free, noble soul

31. Fate has treated us badly, scheming and competing
Connecting and separating, gathering and dispersing

32. A traitor, hands outstretched for betrayal
How far it has extended its hand to treachery

33. Turning from them the covering of discretion by a slight gesture
My state in these times, when considered deeply

34. Seems to me to decrease, the more I increase
Think not that they can be completely fathomed

35. Our stories in these days cannot be counted
Leave off explaining them in detail

36. So many deadly matters has our time
Pursuing its sons and overtaking them

37. An era whose people live in worry
How many noble souls has it killed

38. A new disaster appears every instant
To attack the generous souls

39. Indeed, since the beginning of these days
They seldom grant the generous their brilliance or echo

40. They did not settle in comfort and calm
Nights do not settle in their spans

41. Each day brings a new dissolved state
We hope for success in attaining security

42. In a time that respects every despised soul
That does not refuse kindness to free souls

43. I wish I knew what can be hoped from a time
Whose kindness to the generous is impossible

44. How can we delight in life or rejoice
When we see, wherever we turn, loss

45. Your life would not be good if you never enjoyed
And when can we enjoy a pleasant life

46. While fate comes to us for departure
This life is but a tribulation

47. And vain toil, misery, and sorrow
Followed by extinction of existence

48. And calamities with death are tribulation
The greatest tribulation is to raise what is base

49. The harshest tribulation is to seek refuge
In one who has never been a refuge

50. Or the lowly become a shelter
Even worse than this or that

51. Is the humiliation of the noble to the mean of spirit
It has never eased a living soul

52. Rather, it has done it harm in life and death
We seek eternal life in the abode

53. Yet our remaining in the world is harmful
It betrayed the People of the House before us

54. Noble, glorious people of great deeds and fathers
How harshly hostile it was to them then

55. It did not respect their pact or promise
And protect the seeker of refuge and the despairing

56. O stars, in every land and sea
Guiding mankind in every age

57. O full moons in your rising
You have dispersed their unity, and they were protectors

58. And guides to the clear path
Better to settle on a plot of land and inhabit it

59. You have uncovered what covers the eyes
And protected them from what shakes its ground

60. O sons of Ahmed, People of the Cloak
Guides of mankind, refuge of the outcast

61. By my long loyalty and love of you
I hope for salvation from every hardship

62. My healing when I am sick, my doctor
When an illness wearies me, you are my cure

63. And my health, recovery of the sick
The sincerity of my loyalty and word

64. In my youth and time of maturity
The nights' events have not changed it

65. I have become old but my state
Is unchanged in loyalty, in truthful speech

66. The days have left me, blameless
Bearing the burden of every care and sorrow

67. Where the loss of youth has sapped my body
Today I am old of head and bone

68. Weakened by the weight of heavy burdens
The weakness of my strength and loss of aid

69. Have prevented my purpose and me from it
The bitterness of life has pierced me

70. And my age has passed in wishing
And following desires in saying and speaking

71. You are my pursuit and my desire
And in you I trust after God

72. So if after my beginning comes my return
Your love, O sons of the successor, is my habit

73. In my return to God, the Exalted
A relationship in glory by the grace of my Lord

74. Has drawn me closer to you in seeking nearness
When between my people and companions I claim

75. You, you are the beautiful, and enough for me
Among my people I am called the son of the beautiful
