1. You came with goodness after absence,
Like the full moon that was eclipsed then shone brightly.

2. You came with all happiness,
So may God honor your coming face.

3. You were like rain clouds that found a place to unload,
While we the thirsty found a watering hole.

4. We smelled the scent of wishes without deception,
As the pleasing full moon smiles.

5. You moved from house to house moving,
And it is the custom of moons to move.

6. You came to Baghdad to uncover the harm in it
Until things return to how they were before.

7. Welcome, welcome to stay and greetings,
Dear one in the bosom of glories, revered.

8. With the most truthful one who came from Rome in dialect
And the one the Sultan sent as both eyes and messenger.

9. Trustworthy over workers, forsaking the unjust
And aiding the oppressed and saving the afflicted.

10. So we said the next morning all the people rejoiced,
“May these conditions change.”

11. And in the subtlety of words, if not for obstacles,
Delicate secrets not hidden from one who contemplates.

12. And how much relief God has brought after hardship,
In which we wished wishes of longing.

13. As for us, though exposing our state did not go well,
Scattered, torn, weak in speech.

14. And whoever examines things with knowledgeable eyes
Sees them summarized and detailed through him.

15. It is enough for the intelligent lad an indirect hint,
Its explanation he would see if it were to be prolonged.

16. The Sultan chose you only for knowing
You would neither be bribed nor seek power.

17. By His grace, and may God reward with His grace
The Commander of the Faithful with favor.

18. To remove from us tyranny entirely
And we hope in it with aspirations and expectations.

19. We await the outcome, for behind it
Is a gentleness attained by all rulers.

20. The shadow of God continues to bring justice,
And the judge of matters is none but the just.

21. I have not seen the like of merit raise its people,
Nor a jewel like honesty in speech from jewelry.

22. Say what you want, and speech in what you say
Is clear, and God refuses you dissemble.

23. Stay, remain, submit, and rise to every position
To the heights of glory, rising and climbing.
