1. You have attained the heights of wisdom, O sons of Rashid,
So you are blessed, O children of the most noble father.

2. Whenever you are called to total glory,
You stand by your call, with a thousand witnesses,

3. And you rise to it in ranks, seeking it,
While none who crave highness stand like those sitting.

4. Surely it is inherited among you, it is yours,
Not Zayd's, Bakr's, or Khalid's.

5. You have hoarded from good deeds priceless treasures,
Though the world itself may dwindle, they will not run out.

6. Through your good deeds the world still shines,
Adorned by you with necklaces.

7. You wanted to set right the people after their corruption
And repair corruption with the Indian blade.

8. So you have kindled a fire whose embers blaze,
Though you cool it in speeches in times of woe—

9. They are known to face hardships!
What is missed of resolute bridges over destruction

10. Is far from the concern of the prudent.
You have undertaken to improve the commoners among them

11. While tyranny has torn open the rents of corruption.
You have trimmed the claws and fangs of tyrants

12. With the white, deviating not from any envious slanderer.
Without you, its inhabitants would still reel

13. In the abyss, prey to caprice, the heart of the desolate.
You have prepared for us the days of Fahd and Bandar,

14. And before them the days of ‘Isa and Majid.
You have made the days of glory smile after its weeping

15. Long over the corpses of those glories.
After what was and then ceased,

16. The frozen would then melt over it.
When the passions of love were recalled and provoked

17. The dormant fires in the apathetic hearts.
Can a people succeed when they are ruled

18. By the ignorant, lacking wisdom, missing its benefits?
Not all who ruled the commoners ruled them well,

19. Nor is every leader of armies a leader.
You have undertaken them while slander meets slander,

20. And death takes one after another.
So between the slain and the killer,

21. The expelled and the expeller,
Satan then stirred discord between them

22. When the people were chaos, submitting to none.
Yet you guided them to good until you left them

23. Saying that wisdom is the deed of Ibn Rashid.
You pardoned the crime of one close in lineage

24. Who shot at you the arrow of estrangement.
You left without rancor lying hidden

25. Against an envier ignorant of you, hostile.
You said to one who conceals his stinginess,

26. “Leave hypocrisy—do not peddle it in the market of the critic!”
No prosperity thrives among a people hostile to themselves,

27. Nor did blessings ever roost for the envious.
You have kept sleepless the eye of resolve, and resolve is sleepless,

28. You have not neglected the vengeance of the foe.
A brother of wisdom is one who fears the gloating of the stingy,

29. Whose blade is ever sharpened.
He does not tread a spacious tract of land

30. If the ropes of scheming are tied in it.
God grants you victory, God helps you,

31. Your party’s support suffices you.
You leapt up, the bold lion questioning fate,

32. Nor were you, since you came to be, without purpose.
Fate assisted you in it, and sometimes

33. Strove before you strove, to attain the goals.
Whosoever providence does not assist

34. Has no arm to strengthen, despite the softness of his arm.
You have indeed attained, until the first to rise

35. To your sword on the day of clamor was the first kneeling.
You have been found bestowing virtues their due,

36. Despite the nose of the envious adversery.
You have forced nostrils and bent envies,

37. So be generous, join, sever, and draw near or distance!
None of you aspires but to the heights,

38. Yearning for gentle glory and forebears.
Our creed about you is as you wish,

39. Each of us fully believes in you.
We have seen none of you but thankful

40. For what a praising tongue dictates.
We have recognized you among others, and so

41. A thing's distinction is known by its opposite.
He who has tried days and people other than you,

42. We spurn him, albeit with ascetic eyes.
You are one who tempers valor with bounty,

43. Who accepts good news from every newcomer.
The first steps were taken among you,

44. So they built upon the foundation of those pillars.
If you have destroyed the rubble, still

45. You have won a house of eternal fame.
I hoped in you for benefit, if I visited, and plenty,

46. Nor did the tryst of the returning fail me.
You visited, so God greet that visiting face

47. That rewards its devotees with profits!
You came like the approaching clouds with lightning

48. Toward the plain of sweet water and thunder.
I had no need after the flood for cisterns,

49. No need after the meadows for a water-drawer.
I attained my hopes through you until you sufficed me

50. The riding of steeds and donning of armor.
O Lord of a day like your smiling face

51. We have presented to your summits the prime poems.
As for your soft intellect—when I attain it

52. On my fervid liver, how sweet a draught!
You have possessed my heart and my words,

53. And my absent one is like my witness among you.
You have raised my standard after its fall, feathered

54. My wing, and filled my mouth with rewards.
You have freed me from the fetters of privation,

55. So do not blame me if I unleash my thoughts among you.
