1. Say, as Abdu'l Baqi has said
In eulogy of the elite of mankind

2. Either take rest and give your tongue relief
And take from silence a sublime mode of speech

3. Indeed, the tongue is a morsel that unless
Seasoned with the good, it destroys you with heartburn

4. Or what you see has come with far-reaching wisdoms
Mortal men perish while they remain

5. Wisdoms that enlighten minds with their light
May God bless you, o wisdom of illumination

6. Exhilarating souls and limbs
As if they were sharp swords

7. And it has stirred the minds with its smoothness
In ways the wrist of the cupbearer cannot

8. Unveiling the beauty of the beloved
And passions of the ardent lover

9. It has embraced the nobility of the family of Muhammed
As if they were necklaces around necks

10. As if it breathed a morning breeze in a garden
That fluttered with its gentle wind

11. It softened, almost melting away
Even ink and paper with its gentleness

12. And with it dictating beautiful praise
Of one pure of origin and ancestry

13. Umayyah was bitten by it like a snake spewing
Poisonous venom, beyond cure

14. A word whose edges of the spear
Gleam towards the spilling blood

15. With each rhyme its penetrating mind unlocks
A virgin metaphor without a price

16. Good fortune to him in both worlds, he has contained
Good provision and lasting praise

17. So may God reward him with the best reward
And protect him from any evil without end
