1. She captivated me, though the gazelles captivate the meadows
Signs have strengthened in the wilderness and covenants

2. And my anguish is easiest when in her dwelling
I melt my heart for her while my heart is frigid

3. I stood at it, drawing tears from my eyes
And asked about its dwellers, reciting poetry

4. No sooner had the tear flowed and wetted
Than fires were kindled in my inner heart from passion

5. Neither are those tears depleted
Nor is that burning in my ribs extinguished

6. My friend, why is it whenever lightning flashes
My passion stirs and my eyes blaze

7. And this yearning is ignited beneath my ribs
Can ignited passion be extinguished?

8. If only the image of my angel would visit me
So I can complain to her of the love I suffer

9. And my pact with the district of the angels is a demise
When the beautiful wild cows wander there

10. Our loved ones, the passion and its heat remain
While patience is depleted and gone

11. And I am in an era that harmed its people
And the strangest thing in it is a helpful ally

12. What pained me was not losing wealth
Excellence does not decline, nor disgrace ascend

13. I rose above things that debase those who possess them
And I am not one dirtied by corruption

14. And I am one whom the greedy desire his affection
While the pretentious shun me, acting pious

15. I raced in the arena of trials for a time
And tribulations introduced me to men

16. People are only what their unveiling reveals
A sincere friend or a hostile enemy

17. If the lowest you trust betrays you
It's only fair you betray those further

18. Reconsider people if you are a critic
Lest the validity of your critique be critiqued

19. The people and world have passed, and their affair
Has changed from what the generous desire

20. And I found myself in an era of corruption that
Cannot be reformed, for time itself is corrupt

21. If individuals were counted for generosity and piety
Today, the singular worshipper would be one

22. His place is prepared to deliver greetings
And mosques are populated for prayers

23. Garments of piety in adversity beneath them
Are the chests of glorious men and polished swords

24. An honorable man who derives strength from his extension
And to that man come necklaces

25. He shone when his lightning of generosity flashed
Like lightning flashing in the clouds, thunderous

26. He planted goodness in every place
And its planter, for praise and thanks, reaps

27. Poetry would nearly speak were it not for his beauty
Else my talents would not have lengthened nor my efforts intensified

28. Whenever my poetry and his star of fortune couple
And the observer beholds us, Mercury appears

29. The flowers of speech blossom and shine
With prospects radiating the horizons' breadth

30. In the club, I behold the captives of his face
Looking at the most wondrous of what I see

31. Whenever he is attributed to the noblest father
Blessed is the newborn and blessed the father

32. Himself honorable, lofty is his station
His palms attain the Pleiades while seated

33. He has, wherever the noblest reside on high
An honorable abode, its foundations raised

34. A generous one who gives seekers his bestowal
And the most generous morals flow to him

35. No hopeful was ever disappointed by those generosities
Nor did any envier privately delight in his blessings

36. His springs are sources for the thirsty
Those springs of generosity never run dry

37. The houses of glory are built by his generosities
And the highest of foundations are raised

38. We spurred to that side sincere devotions
With a driver from us to him guiding them

39. And we were true in what was deserved
Hopes in what we desire and beliefs

40. From those people, goodness is connected to its like
We have from his tranquility a returning benefit

41. Goodness and benevolence are only manners
And good in man is only habits

42. Evidences attest to him in praise
Indicators from good deed are its testament

43. And I maintain for him among righteous works a preservation
Though goodness expires, remembrance is immortal

44. To him come the hopeful and from him they receive
For he bestows and they are recipients

45. Lo! By the father of that resolute one, who has
From God support in matters and a defender

46. The steeds of those loyal to him are hitched at his door
And the market of virtue spends while virtue is depressed

47. When I recited eulogy in his praise
The ears of the eminent heard what I recited

48. Many times the wide earth was traversed with his name
Necks adorned with necklaces praising

49. Adorning the neck of time with necklaces
By the neck! Adorned with necklaces!

50. And how much have I composed in the meters of eulogies
His merits as the outstanding qualities in those meters

51. You have tended, may God tend to you, the right tending of me
So your actions, the noble steeds, are praised

52. So leave what you do not desire, for you will succeed
And take what you desire, for you are rightly guided

53. You are known for every virtue
Can the shining sun be denied by a denier?

54. O you who are distinguished in glories! A generous one
Whose brightness shines in both glories and births

55. Through you we have attained hopes though distant
And attained in what we seek intents

56. You, pride of the generous, are all nobility
And you, wealth of the virtuous, are all bounties

57. I thanked you with the dawn’s first thanks
As the rain-waterer’s hand passes them, lightning flashes

58. And here I am, thanking your blessings
For as long as life remains, praising

59. Still I am the destination of every hopeful
And eulogies continue to be recited to you
