1. Blame not a lover if he saw you enthralled,
Every youth you left is smitten and entranced,

2. If the chaste saw you one day with their eyes,
They would abandon chastity for love's dance.

3. O youth, the epitome of beauty lies in you,
Eyes have never seen the likes of you, O lad!

4. Leaving fires in the hearts and tears in the eyes,
And passion overwhelming souls to be had.

5. Do you think I vent my anguish fruitlessly?
Or do you think I seek to attain my wish?

6. Whenever you say you're a cure for my heart,
Your eyes send me a malady so afresh!

7. The whispers of your eyes' sorcery whisper
To my heart infatuation and passion anew!

8. May God give you long life, this my aching heart
Complained of blazing embers, its woe to you.

9. Give me to drink the pure wine of your saliva,
Let not cups of wine give me pleasure or joy.

10. A cheek smooth as silk on a cool limpid stream,
Scarred by pockmarks marring its tranquil employ.

11. Our hopes fed on your cheek, but never got
Its coolness or peace, it was waste, a destroyed dream!

12. O beautiful one, did you not fear Allah,
By killing me, though I am void of sins or blame?

13. Safety, safety from your eyes' sorcery!
For against me you have unsheathed swords of flame.

14. I know not, bewildered, swaying to and fro,
Is it a tender branch or is it your frame?

15. Naught delighted my eyes but the sight of you,
No pleasure found my love but you, untamed.

16. When your memory passes me one day,
Yearning stays in my heart and takes acclaim.

17. So spare me the like of your abandonment,
I see not in living without you any gain.

18. Rather I count the day you show disdain
As an epoch, and your estrangement a bane!

19. Where is your gentleness on the meadows of furtiveness
When I say you resemble the gentle gazelle?

20. O gazelle who grazes my heart's pasture,
Not the coarse thorn-bushes and brambles of shame.

21. Your glances' magic made mighty men succumb,
And cured whoever languished from its spell.

22. How many a night have I passed sleepless,
With the tears of a youth showering like hail!

23. I sought solace for my eyes with my eyes,
But solace for me was seen as forbidden and curst.

24. O my dear ones, blame me not,
For I cannot bear the blamer's rehearsal.

25. Favor me with good tidings of Nejd,
Describe its meadows and encampments to me.

26. And mention to me of Iraq Shahab Al-Deen,
Scattered in his praise and poem's scheme.

27. For the mention of nobles revives the soul,
Gladdening bodies and comforting spirits' dream.

28. He dominated the lords of his time, by his command,
So the righteous and virtuous all did esteem.

29. He never ceased to champion knowledge and glory,
And for science and guidance did redeem.

30. He ascended every pinnacle of pride,
So his ascendance and loftiness did seem.

31. His ingenious intellect transcended knowledge,
Unfathomable before him, without seam.

32. So I see all else as guides after him,
Since his sciences we saw as flags and emblem.

33. O Imam and protector of Muslims, by
That Imam, so righteous and held in esteem.

34. You are a mercy Allah blessed Muslims with,
And all of Islam, like a fond father's dream.

35. May Allah reveal through you the complexities
Of knowledge's secrets, dispelling each scheme.

36. With discourse that heals hearts of ignorance,
Curing the sick, invalid and weak.

37. As if sciences are revealed in secret to your heart,
In sleep and in wakefulness, as a beam.

38. You almost see what is beyond perceiving,
Knowledge inspired and infused in you as a stream.

39. Exalted is the glory you encompass, unmatched,
And the perfection you were granted, unseen!

40. You surpassed in what you attained most high,
Above any station you occupied, it would seem.

41. They cannot reach its terrain as you climbed
And dominated its summits, refusing to teem.

42. We saw you serious and in jest one day,
Inspiring thoughts and minds, as in a dream.

43. So we plucked flowers from gardens,
And heard speech from the maidens, a precious theme.

44. And inhaled the breeze of gentle words,
Like the morning breeze, spreading fragrance as a team.

45. Evidence from you that clarifies the truth,
Vanquishing all atheists in debate, it would seem.

46. You awakened folks after the ignorance of deep slumber,
Who before were nothing but dormant and unseen.

47. You erased the darkness of misguidance and blindness,
As the light of day destroys the dark regime.

48. The whiteness of your pen's ink prevents
Your eloquent pens from preceding, it would seem.

49. You lead them when pens set out,
Unable to undertake as a brave team.

50. You are above being called generous,
If we count you among the noble and esteemed.

51. You inundate people with good, and the clouds' downpour
Waters the dunes and the barren terrain.

52. So if one day glories are listed,
You would be its beginning and end, it is seen.
