1. Since the sword of the onlooker has raged among the lovers,
Raging aimlessly like a worn out old man.
١. مُذْ سَلَّ في العشَّاق سيفَ الناظرِ
وسطا كما يسطو بماضٍ باتر
2. It has wounded my heart with a sharp glance,
Gushing out violently with a languid look.
٢. جرح الفؤاد بصارمٍ من لحظه
رشأ يصول بلحظ خشف فاتر
3. I did not know I would see the turns of fate,
From eyes that tell of piercing eyes.
٣. ما كنتُ أعلم أنْ أرى صرف الردى
من أعيُنٍ تحكي عيون جآذر
4. Woe to you, oh eyes! For you have
Destroyed us with the destruction of a raging lion.
٤. ويلاه من لك العيون فإنَّها
فتكت بنا فتك الهزبر الثائر
5. The eyes appear charming in their movements,
Dressed in the garb of an enchanting, sleepless beauty.
٥. تبدو العيون النجل في حركاتها
في زيّ مسحور وسيما ساهر
6. The moon, when the virgins look upon his beauty,
Becomes virginal, excused for his shyness.
٦. قَمَر إذا نظر العذول جماله
أضحى عذولي بالصبابة عاذري
7. He socializes and connects with his beloved in love,
While being coy is the trait of a fleeing gazelle.
٧. يجفو ويوصل في الهوى لمشوقه
والصدّ من شيم الغزال النافر
8. He spends the evening conversing with me,
While the stars gaze at us, staying up all night.
٨. أمسى يعاطيني مدامة ريقه
والنجم يلحظنا بطرق ساهر
9. I continued to seduce him and sip his saliva,
Until I took him to the height of my desire.
٩. ما زلتُ ألثِمه وأرشفُ ثغره
حتَّى بلغت به مناء الخاطر
10. Blessed are the days of union, for they
Have passed, but on the wings of a bird.
١٠. لله أيَّام الوصال فإنَّها
مرَّت ولكن في جناحي طائر
11. And if I remember the evenings I spent with him,
My tears flowed down my cheeks.
١١. وإذا ذكرت لبانة قضَّيتها
ولعت مدامع أعيني بمحاجري
12. And nights adorned with lightning, I was
Accompanied by my beloved, conversing with me.
١٢. وليالياً بالأَبرقين تصرَّمت
كانَ الحبيب منادمي ومسامري
13. If the one I love is absent and meeting him is difficult,
My heart does not cease to ache in his love.
١٣. إنْ غاب من أهوى وعزّ لقاؤه
فالقلب لم يبرح بوجد حاضر
14. I have regret for the one I adore and yearning
That has ignited the burning embers within me.
١٤. لي حسرة ممَّن أوَدُّ ولوعة
وقدت لواعج نارها بضمائري
15. I have no hope left that I aspire to attain
Except the favor of the hand of Abdul Qadir.
١٥. لم يبقَ لي أملٌ أرجِّي نيله
إلاَّ نوال يمين عبد القادر
16. If the sea of favor did not exist, it would not
Bring the hopeful the dew and jewels.
١٦. لو لم يكنْ بحر النوال لما غدا
يهب المؤمّل من ندًى وجواهر
17. And you see the ships carrying across the world
The news of the excellence of his enduring words.
١٧. وترى الركائب حاملات في الورى
أخبار حسن حديثه المتواتر
18. He is ambitious and determined among men,
His determination made him needless of a judging arbiter.
١٨. ذو همَّة وعزائم بين الملا
أغْنَتْهُ عن حمل الحسم الشاطر
19. He revived the discourse of grace after its death
And the beauty of that bygone time.
١٩. أحيا حديث الفضل بعد مماته
وجمال ذياك الزَّمان الغابر
20. He who enjoys his Paradise of grace
Has left the enemy in the pits of graves.
٢٠. والتارك العافي بجنَّة فضله
ترك المعادي في لحود مقابر
21. The proof of his noble traits is the serenity of his soul,
For the essence of a thing is seen from its appearance.
٢١. ودليل شيمته صفاء جنانه
والشيء باطنه يرى من ظاهر
22. He has traits that we recite in praising him,
I have written their virtues in every book.
٢٢. شِيَمٌ له نتلو بحسنِ ثنائها
كتبت محاسنها بكلِّ دفاتر
23. He pardons the sinner and forgives his sin,
And pardoning is the best act of the Able.
٢٣. يعفو عن الجاني ويغفر ذنبه
والعفو أحسنُ ما أتى من قادر
24. I have not seen among people a more generous hero,
In his hospitality and in defeating the wicked.
٢٤. لم ألقَ بين الناس أكرمَ ماجد
لوفوده ولضدّه من قاهر
25. With wisdom, I describe what his wisdom attempts,
The wise man stands perplexed before him.
٢٥. بالرأي آصفُ ما يحاول رأيه
يقف الذكيّ لديه وقفة حائر
26. Alas, time will never bring his equal,
He was born to the barren mother of time.
٢٦. هيهات أن يأتي الزَّمان بمثله
نتجت به أُمُّ الزَّمان العاقر
27. He comes to the world with every wonder,
And with every noble virtue in amazing youth.
٢٧. يأتي من الدُّنيا بكلِّ بديعةٍ
ومن الفضائل في عجيب باكر
28. In his face are signs of every merit,
He meets the chaste with gladdening tidings.
٢٨. في وجهه آيات كلّ فضيلة
يلقى العفاة ترحباً ببشائر
29. Life itself is his guest with offerings in his right hand,
And with his sword he killed the treacherous enemy.
٢٩. إنَّ الحياة لوفده بيمينه
وبسيفه قتل العدوّ الفاجر
30. A man of ambition and courage in times of strife,
In war, he rages like a crushing eagle.
٣٠. ذو همَّة وشجاعة يوم الوغى
في الحرب يسطو كالعقاب الكاسر
31. They, who collected courage and glory,
Attained the heights towering over others.
٣١. من عصبة جمعوا الشجاعة والندى
نالوا المعالي كابراً عن كابر
32. And if you come to his door in need,
He enriches you with abundant generosity.
٣٢. وإذا أتيت لبابه في حاجةٍ
أغناك في بذلك العطاء الوافر
33. He extends his hands to people generously,
And his giving is like pouring rain.
٣٣. بسط اليدين على الأنام تكرُّماً
ونوالها مثل السحاب الماطر
34. It relates the conversations of generosity
To the hopeful from an endless spring.
٣٤. صَدَرَ المؤمّل عن موارد بحره
يروي أحاديثَ العطا عن جابر
35. Dressed in generosity, girded with honor,
With might and pride from his Lord.
٣٥. متقمِّصٌ بالمكرمات مؤزَّرٌ
من ريّه في عزَّةٍ ومفاخر
36. I swear by the polished sword in his grip,
In times of battle, and by his overflowing sea.
٣٦. قَسَماً ببارق مرهف في كفِّه
حين النزال وبحره المتكاثر
37. I have never seen his equal among men
In his exalted rank and stature.
٣٧. لم ألقَ بين الناس قطّ مماثلاً
لجنابه العالي ولا بمناظر
38. The helper of the outspoken when called to confront
Dangers, the quickest to take initiative.
٣٨. غوث الصريح إذا دُعي لملمَّةٍ
في كشفه الأَخطار أيّ مبادر
39. How many visitors has the river of vigor at his door,
From his sublime grace and source.
٣٩. كم وارد نهر النضار ببابه
من فضله السَّامي ومن من صادر
40. O Master, whose favors are around my neck,
And whose praise is upon my flesh.
٤٠. يا أيُّها المولى الَّذي أفضاله
في عاتقي وثناؤه في ضامري
41. Take this poem from a mute man,
Who, praising you, is given an eloquent tongue.
٤١. خذها إليك قصيدة من أخرسٍ
بثناك ينطق في لسان شاكر
42. You were congratulated on the new feast, and you still
Are the happiness of the generous, despite the wicked.
٤٢. هُنِّيتَ بالعيد الجديد ولم تزل
سعد الكرام ورغم أنفِ الفاجر
43. You remain prosperous, supported,
Your appointed time is in humility and prominence.
٤٣. لا زلت مسعود الجناب مؤيَّداً
وعِداك في ذلٍّ وحالٍ بائر
