1. I say to her when she decides to part from me
And glory demands her departure

2. To where the souls of the generous long to be
And through honor she seeks to fulfill her wants

3. If you've had your fill of me for three days
And left the abodes and their ruins

4. I gave you to drink, O she-camel, from its water
And said, "Drink today from its running stream"

5. And the wind blew open your saddle-cloth
Dragging its ends over the smooth rock

6. Hudhaym saw her as if passion
Was cutting her limbs with anguish

7. Whenever she remembered her pact with al-Lawá
Remembrance stirred up her confusion

8. She lingers hopefully in Dhu al-Ghadah
But separation denies her hopes

9. So he said, and passion is a madness
And how much longing destroys the likes of her

10. If only she had patience from the meadows
Patience would have better suited her

11. Can a passionate soul accept
One whom she loves to torment her?

12. I recognized by the signs of love what ailed her
While you said to us, "What ails her?"

13. And she said, while Hudhaym translated her words
A tongue to convey her speech

14. "For a time I enjoyed those faces
Then after them I suffered terrors"

15. "You’ve trapped these tears in your eyes
Wanting, O she-camel, to release them"

16. "Come, let us weep anew
For my eyes are heavily burdened"
