1. This is the abode of knowledge and jurisprudence
Where the greatest scholars take refuge

2. A house that contained each valiant and wise person
With the might of iron and gentleness of youth

3. In it are the gnostics, scholars, and devout
And the wit of the refined and the literary

4. Where are the brilliant stars and the bloom of their words
And their faces like a melodious garden

5. By God, a house never devoid of a virtuous one
Nor of noble and prominent men

6. And the Father of Praise resides there with his heart
Relating the sun's descent into Virgo

7. The Mufti of the Two Iraqs whose knowledge
Ascends to the highest rank of excellence

8. If his preaching made deaf rocks hear
Their deafness would burst forth with water

9. For knowledge and literature he built his house
And for every man of merit among the meritorious

10. Sorrows flow easily so give respite
To a house by which viewers' eyes are delighted
