1. We set out to erase sins or gain reward
A visit of Zawra that erases the burden of sins

2. She set out as dusk cast its veil upon us
One of the daughters of water to glorious Kufa

3. Praiseworthy, she journeyed by night, so glory be to the One who journeyed by night
I chose her over other ships as my vessel

4. And prepared her to travel east and west
She was like a bird, if it desires something

5. It spreads its wings with the southern winds
It heads to the corners of the sand dunes for its nest

6. She used to adorn herself before with beauty
And was nourished with what was commanded and what was permitted

7. I reckon the loss of the martyr of Karbala has clothed her
In the garb of mourning, and stripped her adornment

8. Patience adorned her, not nakedness
We set out to a stand where I increase in weeping and yearning

9. And when we raced on a boat and waves
Each flowed to the best stance

10. It says to my eyes, stop, weep from the memory
The boat carried us, so excellent is that to which we are carried

11. To the precious pearl that cannot be equaled
We waded to him while the sea roared

12. And how many surges we waded through to reach him
Only one who seeks pearls dares to plunge into the deep sea

13. To the tomb that rises above the kosmos as an abode
And has attained what the wine-pourer attained in loftiness

14. We march on and do not deviate from the march, uncompromising
We head to a tomb not approached by any, even if exalted

15. To one loftier than it, and its dweller of matchless worth
The husband of the daughter of al-Mukhtar was outstanding

16. He ascended and purity chose him over all mankind
Do you recognize this one whose glory is so prominent?

17. He is al-Murtada, the sword of destiny, the lion of mankind
Ali, supporter of the faith, rather the husband of Fatima the radiant

18. If the eyes of mankind glanced at his essence
They would turn back in frustration, desisting from any likeness

19. And if they beheld a status no eyes can perceive a likeness for
The status of Ali, may God honor his visage

20. The status of Ali that caused the eyes of the lofty to turn back in awe
Indeed, his tomb made the dust verdant

21. And his full moon shone brightly in it
Matching the divine miracle in his precious quality

22. A wonder that transcends celestial spheres contrary to their circuit
Above him is dust, and below him greenery

23. He encompassed us with knowledge, if only the intellect
Could gain precise sciences of his sublimity

24. By analogy, though we have fallen short of the path to him
We reached him, and he is the All-Encompassing in truth

25. It is futile for us to encompass him, so exalted
With news inspired by God, I nearly heard out loud

26. The arguments for him being the most deserving of them
We made pilgrimage to the House of the Lofty beside him

27. In the evening we took refuge by the door of his hidden realm
And the one whose pillars our Kaaba is aligned with

28. Is rightful for pilgrims to seek refuge by his door
And touch the pillars of his Kaaba reverently

29. He pours down God's sciences dwelling in his precinct
So he shares some that benefit and contain

30. And accepts some before settling and after settling
He is most deserving to partition out the graces, none other

31. For the two most virtuous, al-Hasanayn, through him is more fitting
We took shade while many a winged angel and celestial sphere

32. And needy ones from us and seekers of wishes
Kiss, while eyelids are moistened with tears

33. Ample wealth in life, and intercession for the sinful in the next
We served the Commander of the Faithful in a spot

34. Where we rub our faces reverently
And every believer serves the tomb of the Chosen One

35. With eyelids and pupils of eyes
And heated faces dirtied by dust

36. We removed dust that was on the tomb of Haydar
So it shone like the polished Indian sword

37. And no wonder in that pure place
We wiped away the specks from the eyelid of the commemorated sword

38. The most magnificent of God's swords, the most famed
Its brilliance appeared to us and became evident

39. When we cleaned his tomb, so we became adorned
Perplexing intellects and dazzling eyes

40. By God, we know not, though the brilliance shone forth
Did we uncover a grave or clean a tomb?
