1. God willed that you remain mighty and honored,
That you never cease being mighty and respected.

2. The heroes are humbled before you, and she is mighty,
When you use your right hand for fighting, serving as aid.

3. Oh Lord, on a day when your face was shining bright,
You wore a dark green robe.

4. And you unsheathed white swords for battle,
And raised polished spears from sheaths.

5. The lion of glory rode its steed into the fray,
Circling death with its horses like hawks.

6. And when I saw death frowning,
While you faced it smiling and serene,

7. You wrested souls by force many a time,
Blanketing the earth’s plains in bodies slain.

8. Were it not for you, radiant Basra would have become
An abode for corrupters, evil and oppressive.

9. They spoke truthfully, though it split noses apart,
When they said you protected it with your sword,

10. Impenetrable refuge, yielding to none,
Surrounded by warriors of Najd as allies,

11. Who see death as no obstacle to gain for you.
An elder of prominence led them on,

12. More knowledgeable than them in managing affairs,
A learned man needing no further education.

13. Are you not the fiery embers of strife, O sons of Najd,
Sparking when the flames of war are kindled?

14. In this year, you erected edifices of glory
That God did not allow to be demolished.

15. It was but one battle whose fame spread far,
Reaching east and west, near and afar.

16. Through it you raised the status of this protector
And plunged with the spears into a tumultuous sea.

17. When his command called you in the morning,
You obeyed at once, dutiful and honorable.

18. By my life, you girded lethal swords for it,
That when thrust into a mass of foes, shear through.

19. He whose sword was not bared against the enemy
Had it wail in his grip, worn down and blunt.

20. Truly, he who chooses others over you for battle,
Thinking them sufficient replacement, is deluded.

21. Like one who chooses misguidance over guidance,
And substitutes insight for blindness.

22. "Perhaps, maybe" - what use are these words
Of uncertainty and doubt?

23. You are serenity when men lose control,
Shaking sturdy resolve or annihilating it entirely.

24. When you met those you intended,
You overwhelmed them with terrors flung far.

25. You endured it with the patience of the valiant,
Plunging recklessly on destriers galloping.

26. You drove them into the path of death forcibly,
To taste the flavor of demise, bitter and choking.

27. Your hopes in a clamorous day were not dashed,
A day of havoc and chaos you transformed to order.

28. You were armed by Him with a sharpened sword for striking
And a straightened spear for thrusting.

29. Whoever thought glory lied outside your might
Was deluded in this view and regretted it.

30. Glory lies in none but you, belonging to none but you.
When it seeks affiliation, it turns only to you.

31. When you lead in affairs and take charge of them,
You are praised, seated or standing upright.

32. No report was heard from you, past or present,
That imagines falsehood or conjectures blindly.

33. If you speak a word, you speak truthfully.
Your resolve does not waver if it seeks something firmly.

34. When your enemy came to you in safety,
And you covenanted he would return and submit,

35. You kept your pledge and ignored those
Who secretly advised betrayal and deceit.

36. Had he extended from his distance a hand against you,
It would have returned severed, repelled harshly.

37. In times past, O people, is the greatest lesson,
And it befits him then to contemplate and reflect.

38. Does he reckon the matter can be concealed from you?
Never! It was not ambiguous and obscure.

39. He disclosed what was hidden and extracted what was buried,
Clarifying what was within hearts and translating it.

40. Did he take the white swords as a path to supremacy
And the reddened scabbard a ladder to glory?

41. You gave victory to this protector by grace,
Acting from your nobility and benevolence.

42. Upon a brave youth chosen by God - may He be praised! -
With resolve he took authority and stepped forward.

43. He surpassed its heroes and men,
As no magic could obscure what was manifest.

44. He overturned it completely until he found no equal,
Among those who led the radiant Thursday.

45. Thereupon the authority went to its rightful holder,
Revered and esteemed in all hearts.

46. His might oppressed those rebels extensively,
And his sword judged them definitively.

47. A rebel may find deliverance if he desists,
But deems submission to authority most prudent.

48. No governor before aided Al-Munīb like this,
Surpassing all previous rulers.

49. Sulaiman, you left no loose strings in your bow,
Nor did your right hand refrain from giving generously.

50. You lifted its darkness with swords and spears,
Though your state was obscured in color like burned ashes.

51. You became crowned with the crown of pride,
And turbaned in the cloth of glorious deeds.

52. To you, Abu Dawood, I travel on steeds
Whose saddlebags were torn from journeying far and wide.

53. You sheltered us from the bitterness of long travel,
As our swords were worn down from the journey’s strain.

54. You honored our stay, and no souls’ eyes
Saw hands more generous and gracious than yours.

55. I will attain the joy of seeing your face,
And thank God for your blessings and favor.

56. I will present to your eminence what little I can,
Even if I offered a stringed pearl necklace adorned.

57. For your love in my heart and your name on my tongue
Are sweeter than cool clear water to the thirsty.
