1. He ruled only over the steadfast elderly,
And tomorrow he stumbles on the tail of obstacles.

2. A youngster who hunts lions, and who
Taught the deer to hunt lions.

3. With my father Al-Shaden, his glance
Has the glance of an aimer, pure black.

4. I do not meet swords and spears
I do not meet eyes and melting flames.

5. Oh a heart that desire played with,
Of the eyes of Babylonian women and neck.

6. The phantom of a delicate one visited me
So he quenched the covenant of youth near life.

7. I remembered a time that passed me
The delight of ecstasy, the shepherd of covenants.

8. And my faraway home during that fever
Is not far in passion from my heart.

9. Oh my tears, soothe my cheek, oh
Heat of passion, is there any increase?

10. Where are the days of love from Rama?
Oh its nights, may God protect you, come back.

11. And the tears of the cloud in its corners
And the smile of comfort over scattered pearls.

12. Its stars tossed the cup of dissolution
Every defiant devil of worries as an aspirant.

13. So turn it into a customary coffee
Pressed in the time of ‘Aad and Thamud.

14. Oh you the pourer, grant me a kiss
A gift from you in kindness and existence.

15. I don’t drink it except over
The roses of the mouth or the apples of the cheek.

16. And through your sweet spring that
I quench my thirst and who has roses for me?

17. And the fire of your cheek that
Has not ceased to have burning wood in my viscera.

18. Who can return me a time that has passed
With the melted amber in solid water?

19. The cups circulated in it out of rapture
From the hand of a lover and from a beautiful gazelle.

20. And as if the cup in her pouring
Was plucked and squeezed from the cheek of a fawn.

21. In gardens whose foliage sang
With prose and poetry from it.

22. And the myrtle branches in the wind of morning breeze
Bending between bowing and prostration.

23. So a crescent-faced one quenched that singing
Swift lightning, rumbling thunder.

24. It would have been paradise except
It was not then the abode of immortality.

25. On nights whose darkness resembled
Smoke that was from burning wood.

26. And as if the stars in it were
Eyes of an onlooker, not sleeping.

27. And as if the moon in it was
A king, surrounded by procession and soldiers.

28. And as if the dawn after the darkness
A bird running after prey.

29. The atmosphere softened until its softness
Was the softness of Judge Ibn Abdelhameed.

30. His morals were refined and delighted
Like the delight of a meadow blooming with roses.

31. Indeed whoever comes to his rulings
Comes to a strong pillar.

32. Just in ruling, his judgment passes
With the decree of the Lord between the slaves.

33. Whenever I glance at him
The gazes of roses wink at me from him.

34. My proof of him is favors and dew
And good deed with the righteous people.

35. And my witnesses are his merits, and proof is not upheld
Except through witnesses.

36. A moon in glory, dressed in
The honor of forefathers and ancestors.

37. Abundant in generosity, his hopeful hand
Is a sea that pours without end.

38. With accessible fortune, attaining it
From a pourer and purpose for the seeker.

39. A scholar in whom is benefit for us
So may God reward the beneficial to the benefiting.

40. Shining, looking with insightful vision
Into the obscure of the matter, decisive.

41. And with the ambitions in his being
Whenever scrutinized, glistened with steel.

42. His sublime meanings were explained to us
Which cannot be hidden from other than the stupid.

43. And he showed us among his peers
Singular, sufficient instead of the many.

44. Upholder of the way of religion and guidance
Executing justice, maintainer of limits.

45. Bearer of truth, sword-yielding, submissive
To the Creator, every stubborn tyrant humbled.

46. In his limit, hoped for or feared
Comforting in promise and deterring in threat.

47. He promised me hopes through him
And fulfilled after a year with promises.

48. So I praised God when there emerged
A rising like the full moon in the constellation of good fortune.

49. Returned to position, a judge who never ceased to be
Every day in a holiday of happiness.

50. And by the grace of God, his glory rises
So Glorified is God, Lord of the Magnificent Throne.

51. Oh pillar of glory in glory, oh
Pearl of the crown, oh house of the ode.

52. You remain in the world a fragrant aroma
Permanent in blessing, oppressed by envy.

53. Oh God grant you, a youth from the start
With dew and favor among us and repeat.

54. And the rhymes I recite in his praise
Were composed in eulogy like necklaces.

55. Favors unleashed my tongue, luxuries
Restrained me from his sublimity with shackles.

56. I, were it not for a shower from his clouds
My branch would not have quenched nor would my peg blossom.
