1. Be joyful with wine ere it's mixed, for it tells of rapture
When pure, like a sun disclosed by a palm, scattering gems.

2. These are the times of joy - so miss not the joys of life,
Lest time steals life's pleasures, robbing you unaware.

3. See the spring in its glory, flowers smiling in buds,
As the goblet of ruby wine I mingle brings joy.

4. My gentle companions signal with eyebrows at play
That draw hearts as swords from sheaths, tempered and keen.

5. If not for the beauty of heavens in his face,
No longing eye would find hell in his glance.

6. Or if he would give me the honey of his affection,
I'd not complain of the sting of his disdain.

7. Woe to him who forbade the passion of love -
Who made union with the beloved forbidden and rare.

8. Oh, the nights he visited me in their darkness,
Defying censurers, shunning blame with delight.

9. I spent my happiest days in the rapture of his love
Till dawn broke, awakening, mocking my pain.

10. The deep dark eyes of gazelles bequeathed anguish
To my heart, striking thoughts with arrows of fire.

11. Kindling flames in his cheeks, consuming my soul -
Yearning lit within me burns ardent and dire.

12. Chastise not the lover enthralled in lament -
My heart obeyed love though it was stolen away

13. By the enchanting wild does who captured its reigns -
I let it rule my heart, and it led me astray.

14. My passion is mingling wine - and my heart's ever bound
To illustrious deeds, flags of glory its banner.

15. You, world teacher, revealing wonders in works -
Wherever you speak minds marvel, filled with amaze.

16. Throngs flock to your house of knowledge for learning -
Some sit at your feet, and some come to gain.

17. One leaves with your gift feeling triumphant,
Another made wise in the lesson he's taught.

18. None parts from you lacking, bereft of your giving -
The weakest of hearts feels your kindness and care.

19. Bring him questions or problems that vex and confound you -
He welcomes your need, understanding all.

20. He gathered all virtues, the best of mankind -
Vanquished meanness with kindness impossibly rare.

21. Smiling, welcoming those who frequent his door -
Like rain when it falls, bringing abundance and cheer.

22. None leaves without drinking the plenty he offers;
His knowledge pours forth, showering all who draw near.

23. How many puzzles by his intellect were solved,
Obscurities cleared by his reasoned response!

24. Since his youth he was nourished with knowledge and wisdom,
And grew up entranced by the love of the good.

25. His merits raised him to heaven's heights -
A lofty pinnacle, never to crumble or fall.

26. Grinning, delighting in mockery and lies -
But serious, bitter as aloes in gall.

27. Like fierce, preying lions when prowling for food,
Or storming stallions attacking in war.

28. How many heretics who plotted against him
Saw the swords of truth turn them back from the fray!

29. With each proof that appeared their arguments failed
Though cloaked by the veil of the blackest night's pall.

30. He's the guide of our faith, steering clear of misguidance,
Lighting the road when blindness and shadows appall.

31. Hail to the clan of the Prophet Muhammed!
When claiming that line, only truth can be told.

32. Abounding, teeming, his knowledge an ocean -
You'll find him a sage, thoroughly versed in his call.

33. He rose over malice by will and defiance -
Soared over envy, though hatred would maul.

34. God lodged in his soul at his making a jewel -
A gem never broken or cleft in its all.

35. Tell the fool who seeks fault in his triumphs -
Nonsense! None but the lofty can stand at that height.

36. Sweeter than purest collected honey, his wit -
Yet it stings like aloes when roused by a fight.

37. Like lions in ambush the infidels came -
But the swords of God's truth made them cower in flight.

38. His proofs left no doubt of their specious profession -
Though cloaked by the veil of the blackest night's pall.

39. He's the guide of our faith, steering clear of misguidance,
Lighting the road when blindness and shadows appall.

40. O noble one, master of every art and science!
You're a beacon for mankind, exemplar for all.

41. Let glory won bring you joy and great honor -
If justly assessed, you'd be placed at the height.

42. Today you've attained the most eminent station,
An occasion of mourning for envious foes.

43. You gained your desserts by the grace you're endowed with -
So linger forever ennobled and blessed.

44. Ask love from the hearts of the mute who, if able,
Would speak your renown louder than tongues could extol.
