1. I recalled the covenant of friendship on the ruins,
So it revived me and stirred some of what was inside me,

2. And made me yearn for the places I used to be in,
With the finest and most pleasant life.

3. So I spend the night moaning with yearning for it,
Like an old man yearns for his youth.

4. The rain watered those lands and its inhabitants,
With abundant, dripping rain from the clouds.

5. So how many gazelles are there, in the meadows,
That take the place of an absent lion with their charm?

6. I would sacrifice myself for whoever I ransom with myself,
And he torments me, tormenting my torment.

7. I have a heart burning with inflammation,
And I have tears that flow in outpouring.

8. I have nights that drag on with my sighs,
And my sorrow and gloom do not shorten.

9. How much worry has wounded my heart,
And how long has my reproach of it lasted?

10. Estrangement from loved ones disturbs me,
And separation disturbs and confuses me.

11. Hope makes excuses to me with its promises,
Yet promises are nothing but lies.

12. It makes me covet what I do not hope for,
Can mirage water quench a thirst?

13. Death has not treated my companions the same as me,
For it has taken them and left me behind.

14. I have no one to complain to,
If one day it bites me with its fangs.

15. My hands have written no letter to it,
Though it was recorded in the Mother of the Book.

16. The ruins made me taste sweet and bitter,
And passion made me drink vinegar and poison.

17. I roam the lands and wander them,
Yet my striving brings me no gains.

18. What desolate place have I not trodden,
Disturbing its riders with my worries?

19. I wore its dust and left it
Like a sword drawn from its sheath.

20. I attained the abode of might
Only with the most high and noble servant of the Capable One.

21. We attained our wish from striving only
When we descended in his vast abodes.

22. Generous, kind morals, devout,
Brighter than clouds on days of giving.

23. No sooner asked for than freely given,
Swift to reward and answer.

24. When asked about His blessings,
I praise, thanking Him for my happy outcome.

25. Or a drawing near of hearts occurs,
And none but Him draws near my heart.

26. O full moon of beauty, peerless,
O Lord of beauty, matchless protector.

27. I thank You for Your overflowing grace, and I pray
For Your glory with answered prayers.

28. For blessings You have poured forth freely,
Seeking only reward, not compensation.

29. Of that which gladdened me and dispelled my care
Was my drawing near and approaching You.

30. I do not cease to rave in every valley,
And to proclaim Your praises at every gate.

31. I spurn all others in every state,
And covet only Your noble gifts.

32. Through the days You are called upon
To relieve harm or ward off affliction.

33. Fate struck with what it adorned you with,
A fate of truth and right.

34. Your deputy fulfilled his role
Governing with awe-inspiring force.

35. You took his place with justice there,
And rebuilt it after its destruction.

36. You leveled the difficulties, as is most fitting for you,
Known for leveling difficulties.

37. So let not the words of enemies grieve you,
For lions do not care for the barking of dogs.

38. You have soared in the atmosphere of glories,
Today, too lofty for any punishment.

39. You surpassed them with your exalted rank,
As mountains tower over the rides.

40. None rival you in justice or eloquence,
After you, the most adept of all.

41. You have excelled in noble morals,
Embodying wonders and marvels.

42. My master, long has been my estrangement,
So permit me to ransom myself by departing.

43. I will return from you in prosperity,
Thanking your noble act of permitting my return.

44. I will compose lifelong thanks to you,
As necklaces are strung onto a string.

45. I care for no other worry or desire,
For in you lies my aspiration and devotion.

46. Yearning for a homeland and folk,
Today, I am one with a melting heart.

47. Accepting the booty despite my illness and passion,
I acquiesced to return with only the spoils.
