1. For one enamored by you I weep,
Yearning, burning, in the depths of despair.

2. My cheeks are flooded by the tears I cry,
My garb is ragged from my sorrow and care.

3. I shed copious tears like rain in Spring,
As heavy clouds let fall their watery wear.

4. Ceaselessly down my cheeks the raindrops pour,
My eyes a wellspring that knows no repair.

5. My sighs blaze wildly in my broken heart,
Consuming me, fanned by passion's hot air.

6. Do you now know, after you destroyed me,
That I am left with only sad despair?

7. You took the light from my eyes when you left,
That shone like the full moon gleaming bright and fair.

8. Naught remains within my burning heart but pain
And passion and love that you planted there.

9. You took my soul that followed you always,
It never found peace or safety from your snare.

10. Say to the one whose arrow pierced my soul,
Though forbidden in this holy time and rare.

11. Often when your name was mentioned, my love,
My thin frame shook in remembrance of your care.

12. When told of you, I was sated and forgot
The wine that once transported me on air.

13. Or when the morning breeze carried your scent
Between the meadows and the mountains bare.

14. Where is that time, that place, those radiant faces
In the tents, that my memory holds with care?

15. My days in the valley of grief are naught
But a dream now vanished into empty air.

16. Who can give me back my youthful days,
And make this old man young without compare?

17. My dear ones whom I loved are now gone,
Scattered by fate, flown to places far and rare.

18. Long have I pined for them and regretted
Their loss, so cease reproaching me, be fair!

19. I'll not forget the joy of life and love,
The wine that glowed like fire made with care.

20. My friends seem now to have become
Victims of time, lost in its endless snare.

21. Their words were pearls perfectly aligned,
Well-ordered like strands in a necklace fair.

22. Fate treated them as it treats all
The noble and great, without concern or care.

23. Our bonds of love are now broken,
After being joined, torn apart without repair.

24. The days of youth are gone, vanished
Like an ostrich speeding without stop or scare.

25. Woe to poetry that gets no regard
In days of ignorance ruled by the unfair.

26. One tribe values trinkets, another seeks
only arrows and swords for strife and warfare.

27. Yet if poetry finds those who merit it,
It blends with their praise in harmony rare.

28. These verses have come down to me from One
Exalted in Might, of utmost Glory and Care!

29. A luminous Hashimi, his face brighter
than dawn when night's veil is lifted bare.

30. He is a raincloud giving life when invoked,
A mighty warrior exacting revenge with care.

31. All who come to him know the ocean of merit from which he flows,
A boundless sea, the greatest of seas that are there!

32. People stand in awe or long for acceptance
From these noble souls, by their mercy and care.

33. Their excellent deeds encompass all people,
Known to us from the lines of Sam and Ham.

34. They are the noblest people of all,
The masters of men, leaders beyond compare.

35. They are refuge for people in this life,
And intercessors for them on Judgment Day fair.

36. They were raised in obedience to God,
Judges of justice or priests with wisdom rare.

37. They were nursed on sublime enlightenment,
And after weaning, were fed grace beyond compare.

38. When they sharpened their blades for battle,
They sheathed them after the fight with care.

39. With their mighty hands they destroy enemies,
And swords that render the foe in despair.

40. I love to recall their valor in war,
The piercing lances, the keen swords that are there.

41. If the highest heavens can be scaled,
They are its climbers, mounting aloft without scare!

42. O Spring of nobility and grace,
Life of generosity though death and despair be near!

43. You are a meadow, fresh and fragrant to the seeker,
Clean water to slake the thirst of one impaired.

44. If you are invoked like clouds promising rain,
None can outdo you in fulfilling hopes and prayer.

45. O sun-like in your radiance at dawn!
O moon-like amid the darkness of night so fair!

46. Even if I thank you more, it will not match
The constant blessings you grant without compare.

47. Eyes of good fortune you opened showed me,
While I was slumbering unaware.

48. Your hands you stretched out giving me
Gifts of your eloquence beyond compare.

49. We feared clouds that did not come from you,
And so were disappointed in our hopes laid bare.

50. So I will thank you as I know you,
With praises at the start and end, with utmost care.

51. May your Eid bring you nobility and bliss,
As you succeeded in fasting with wisdom rare!

52. Live on in health, my master, and submit
To the Most High, through all times, without despair.
