1. He nearly died of illness and emaciation
When he disobeyed the love of the aloof one

2. A body, had it not been for your love, would not have complained
Of an inflamed liver or a frail frame

3. The one estranged knew what he encountered through you
The day you turned away, though he was ignorant

4. With sorrows that melted him, shed by gazelles
And a passion that spilled tears flowing

5. The gazelles of love had tempted
My tears to flow over your estrangement

6. I see no good in patience without you
And it's impossible to see patience as good

7. We remembered you with brokenness of spirit
So we inclined at that remembrance

8. Oh what a memory that stirred up agony
And took decisively from me composure and resolve

9. The spirits blew from your settlements
So we breathed them in from left and right

10. It was as if we had then drank east wind
From the wine skin in draughts

11. Oh my friend, is there anyone fortunate
For one aggrieved to complain of the frail

12. Rather, blindness from tears, not
Tears flowing from his intestines

13. The estranged blamed me wrongly for love
And the helper in love became treacherous

14. Had I not been passionate about you, the critic
Would not have found a way to blame

15. There is no fault in one who loves the charming one
And the soft cheek that is radiant

16. He went on castigating my hearing
With his vile words in his estrangement

17. I wish before love I had not adopted
The captivating glance of the flock as a friend

18. I don't know, when their glances glanced
Glances they sharpened, or arrows they launched

19. The living blamed them, and their love
Asked the meadows and hills about them

20. I wish I knew where their settlements journeyed
Crossing the desert, pace by pace

21. And what one who loved them suffers after them
The sigh of longing and prolonged grief

22. The sleepless watcher in fervor so
He tastes no sleep but a little

23. They commanded patience from them, but for you
I delighted in patience, so it availed nothing

24. My friend you are wise in love
Do you see any cure for a love like death

25. An expression of grief I shed
Tamed the ferocity that had been refractory

26. If you want tranquility of spirit through you
Then send the wind to my spirit a passage

27. And restore it a second time
Oh breeze, stir up passion by night

28. God knows I am a poet
Who has not lied or praised out of greed

29. God has spared me in His subtlety
With Abu Isa, attainment and drinking place

30. The pure, magnanimous, valiant one
Who was fragrant among men in roots and branches

31. One who attains favour from his beneficence
And abundant giving, wealth abounding

32. If an oryx wanders by
It finds in his meadows ample shade

33. Clear in pride, and who is this one
Who seeks one day over the sun proof

34. A young man in whom is found
All that is said of feats among the eminent in ancestry

35. He brought forth for the world a mother and father
And most honoured of people in origin

36. Indeed the family of Jamil are a virtuous folk
Inspired in beneficence and noble deed

37. They inherited these qualities from their father
Reaching highest virtue and enduring glory

38. Souls ennobled them that mounted
To the place of stars in gentle manner

39. Tell whoever claims to equate them
You have not attained the impossible by such a claim

40. By my soul, one who scorns wealth in
His perfect munificence, and who protects the guest

41. Whenever the weak cling to him
He responds with ready zeal to assist

42. He set lofty pillars for the summit
And it befits his loftiness to ascend

43. Whenever favour is sought he rises up
Conveying to each who asks in full

44. I will not cease until I am covered in the earth
Giving him too little praise, and prolonging

45. They inherited from a magnificent forebear
Magnanimity that never ceased from generation to generation

46. They shone like stars after their father
I do not see them setting after rising

47. A progeny from ancestors they succeeded
Who settled them a sea for the dew, and lodging for guests

48. Each individual adorns the ages with
Scattered pearls gleaming through them

49. A splendid work of their making is a feat
That bewildered thoughts and minds

50. They perfected in their noble deeds
Signs that succeeded in phases amongst them

51. Ask them for merit, they are deserving of it
And others account merit redundant

52. Their heights attained the lofty quarters
Pouring not meager drops but copious rainfall

53. Our hopes are guaranteed by their beneficence
And attainment is assured, no doubt

54. Oh clan of Abdulghani the Honoured
Through your heights I have not been disgraced

55. Whenever I clothe my poem with your praise
The poem trails the train of pride
