1. She winds her way across the desert sands
Turning the wasteland into empty plains

2. Does she recall her lovers from times past?
Longing has lodged itself in her heart like a prisoner

3. Thus joy plays tricks on her
And you see her eyes flowing with tearful sorrow

4. Whenever the guide mentions someone
Who once lived in Sala and whose memory she still cherishes

5. The signs of passion are clear to see
For no lover can conceal their ardour

6. She remembers those who camped in the valley
So her tears flow freely, one after the other

7. Each branch that emerges reminds me
That the Creator has fashioned a full moon

8. And when it bends towards its longing lover
It unleashes the sword of a glance, fierce and intense

9. She sips his saliva, intoxicated by his figure
Staggering from the chains that bind her

10. In my heart is that slender frame
Whose spear pierced and tore my heart open

11. And on his cheek from his beauty mark
The breeze wrote a line above his cheek

12. O you who mix my tears with my blood
I cannot endure separation or show patience

13. If your eyes deny my blood
Your cheeks openly confirmed it

14. Honey-complexioned, sweet-lipped
Why have you made the heartbroken one drink bitterness?

15. And be loyal, if I am blamed
My ears block out all critics

16. Blame brings no benefit to the condemned
Who only does what the punisher commands

17. How could you forget our nights
That passed in joy and good news?

18. When we felt safe from spies among us
As we drank nothing but your wine

19. And days we stole away
Counting no other life but them

20. I care not for a tyrannical time
Be it hardship or be it ease

21. Mahmud's excellent qualities have now become
My helper and treasure in the shifting world

22. If an ocean of his knowledge gushed forth
And its call covered the land with seas

23. It would be no ocean, if not for
Its words scattering pearls among the people

24. If you ponder him, you would say to him
God has hidden in your greatness a secret

25. What obscure meaning could you ask him
That he does not uncover from its mystery?

26. Knotty problems of knowledge confused
But he pushed opinions away in perplexity

27. God's gift to him of knowledge
Exceeded all bounds and limits

28. We have heard no story of ones passed
In which he did not recount details in order

29. The pillar of this faith stands firm in him
And he makes knowledge's necklace whole

30. Seekers flock to his river
God has expanded his breast in religion

31. He clarifies ambiguities in his views
And sees things before the eyes can think

32. With intelligence like an Indian sword, or
Like flint, wherever he strikes, he lights a flame

33. Were it not for his leadership
Settling upon this earth among us

34. And his gentle refinement of character
If wrung, it would yield us honey and wine

35. And if you listen to the eloquence he possesses
You would think his mind supernatural

36. And God guides people through him
To the ways of truth, clarifying matters

37. And when he mentions God to us
The heart trembles, even if it were solid rock

38. With a tongue that was medicine against sin
He cures the soul with his preaching

39. And a generous man, from his noble essence
Who finds within himself no conceit or pride

40. And if you seek him out for something
He increases his bounty and good news to you

41. O you unique in this world
Who surpasses people of this age in glory

42. Since I saw you, I saw my wishes
And your hands unfold the days

43. And through your kindness, my status was raised
Though before knowing you, I was free

44. Seeking nothing but your satisfaction as a dowry
I give her to you, chaste in your attributes, my lord

45. And accept from this pauper an excuse
And excuse the servant for his shortcomings

46. For in praising you is thanks and praise
And thwart the envier from attaining loftiness

47. And let your opponent die vanquished and disgraced
