1. Turn away from vulgarity and disgrace,
Do not trust an untrustworthy friend.

2. Do not settle among rude people,
Even if you are in need and poverty.

3. What is the use of toil, and the shade of the branch satisfies me,
And this misery, and some food suffices me.

4. Money becomes like the palm of its collector,
Even if I am prideful of Qarun's wealth.

5. It does not benefit me when illness assaults me,
If I find a doctor who does not cure me.

6. Who will support me if his feet slip in slippery ground,
Or if my feet slip, he supports me.

7. He never casts enemies upon me,
Even if all people pelt me.

8. I complain to God of a people I lived among,
Who are content with less than what they want.

9. They have no grace that pleases my sight,
Nor do they have wit that entertains me.

10. I consider forbidden everyone who lies with an ugly woman
And the one who defiles honours is despicable.

11. I avoid him in every way
And evil spreads among people infecting me.

12. If not for at-Tanoukhi, I would not be intimate with anyone,
Nor would I accept the affection of one who calls me.

13. No eye of a person would ever see me
Except bare, empty, unaccompanied.

14. The night came with its blackness in a vast horizon,
And the dawn is the happiest dawn when it comes to me.

15. It is as if it is a bringer of good news that came to give me glad tidings,
And an entertainer that came in the evening to sing to me.

16. If old age could empower me over every calamity,
And distance the blackness in my head from sorrow.

17. It would obey me, though it has no loyalty,
As if, all this time, it disobeyed me.

18. How many nights did I spend with it in confusion,
Giving it what it wants from me, and it gives me the same.

19. It is as if we are in the greenery when we remember,
We spend the evening and morning in the green gardens.

20. A conversation passes between us that entertains us
To refrain from serving it a cup, and it serves me.

21. When it intoxicated me, it inclined me to continue,
So I do not care about those in existence who are rude to me.

22. And if praise runs in its speech about me,
Then say, to whoever wants among the groups, to blame me.

23. Life did not settle except through it, nor did
People escape from the luxury of religion.

24. My ear does not hear what does not please me about it,
Nor did my eyes see what does not satisfy me.

25. What I was given from it was not taken back,
Nor did branches that clothed me strip me bare.
