1. Abu Bakr, death has befallen you
When no one can prevent your demise

2. And your loss grieves me, being so near
An illness with no cure, agonizing indeed

3. My heart wept for you instead of my tears
Many weep yet have no tears

4. As if you never settled with a people
Though you were their lush, ripe pasture

5. A journey with no return for them
Nor hope the sun will rise for their vanished

6. Their chieftains, though honorable, are haughty
And the ribs of graves are their dwellings

7. Struck by every impending doom and anxiety
Yet neither this nor that makes them worry

8. Vain hopes delude us
By Allah! Deceit has reached its peak

9. The ways of despair are clear to us
Yet perhaps the hopes of the ambitious hold promise

10. If you go away, the wealthy may come
If you leave, spring itself may leave

11. If bereft eyes seek you in vain
No grieving chests will seek you in vain

12. If your place seems narrow with dust
You are that expansive, spacious expanse

13. What lingers, its demise delayed
Startles us with its haste

14. What time has left us no lineage
That we hope its branches will endure

15. Days are but reapers
Of what they planted while we are their crops

16. Were it not destined, ordained
I'd say you wronged us by your early departure
