Sunset as you hope for sunrise

5. He who raises palaces as if
Time has spared its tall buildings

6. We saw as you saw Ali
Wrapped in dust, a lifeless corpse

7. Fear not if you live unlike death
And if you rise, only to fall

8. For how long will you be in life
Ill-fated and tricked, a captive?

9. Do you see, if you see, other than guile
And mirage in every barren valley?

10. And a garment, whenever nights wish
Was from us, changed and removed

11. Be not in remaining when time destroys you
Like morning, and in evening twilight

12. The events of these nights left
No followers or followed among us

13. If I were fair to myself, I would make
My farewells to people departure

14. My friend, remind me of misfortunes
And let me drink tears

15. And listen as I listened to days
Threatening and frightening me

16. If the nights' turns left me no
Roots, how can I hope for branches?

17. Where are the people who were at night a morn
Whose glow was never veiled, and in droughts, spring?

18. Where are those who drove away evil
From us with might, and with dew were fountains?

19. You see them, after dear mighty power
In the earth's laps, humbled, submitted

20. I wish fate restored and gave back
That which it deprived, to us

21. If nothing remains but death, then slow
Death is like sudden death

22. Tell my father Ali's mourner: Do not
Say what you said was never heard

23. You have cast terror in me
When you told what left me no tranquility

24. Question another, not all bereaved are
Afflicted by woe like me, bereaved

25. I was content with nothing in life
I hung it up and so became content

26. He was my soil, my companion, and whenever
I feared, an impregnable fortress

27. His memory is eternal - whenever another
Is remembered, it returns blunted

28. Without him I love, my life resembles death
When we were separated, a part of me torn

29. What king in our time was not
Struck down by fate - it made you desolate

30. You aided them, and calamity uttered
Words enough for them and deed enough

31. How they screamed to you, judgment is consultation
They answered your call heard

32. I do not care if I keep a
Promise to my friend, though none other does

33. We have lived, sharing
And mingling, gathering and dispersing

34. Until I made you, when you were
Absent from my eyelids, my companion in sleep

35. In a place angels of God
Come to, evening and morn

36. If you call your Lord there
And ask the Almighty, He hears

37. And a neighbor - when you stand
Cleansed of evil deeds - who intercedes

38. So congratulations, you settled quarters
We passed on to Moses' folk abodes

39. If they have no fears the Day they are
Resurrected, you will not be fearful

40. When their lips are parched, then you will be
In it, sated with water pure and plentiful -

41. God watered soil you are laid to rest in, saturated
With pure drink was once burning thirst
