1. By your Lord, O Yemeni lightning
Reveal to me with your glimmer the wells

2. For long have you visited me, weakened,
A whiff in the dye of purple

3. You almost expired without feeling me
Guiding seekers to my whereabouts

4. I was sleepless because of your glowing light
Which appears and hides in the sky without smoke

5. As if you waved in the darkness of night
To the heroes in the sandy Yemeni land

6. I see you when you shine and after a short while
You disappear so I see you not nor do you see me

7. And I await from you a deceiver of my senses
Disappearing with fickleness from my eyes

8. As if you do not settle on a path
You took your year from the era of love

9. And you flutter in the horizons until
You seem amidst the tumult the coward's heart

10. You hide to me from a distant,
Impregnable land, no hopes attached to it

11. And remind me while your mind is not my mind
Straying from what of my life has passed

12. And a life in which I spent an epoch
Indulged without restraint

13. Whenever its glimmer crossed my heart
Yearning flowed to see it again

14. For the beautiful white women incline toward me
And the appointment of love in my time

15. And I would spend my night and wake
At the heels of events in safety

16. An era that had loyal friends for me
Generous men from the tribe of Abd al-Mudan

17. Of the band who refused my refusal
And led me during their crisis

18. They joined ties with me
And I was with them without a second

19. And had they not been the confederation of enemies
And my protection from my foes that did not drive me away

20. Harm touches them before me and
Concerns them all - by your life, they did not drive me away

21. And encountering them is indispensable to me
And what suffices me does not suffice them

22. They left toward their path and I remained alone
Biting on their loss with my eyeteeth
