1. O seeker of this world's vanities, do not
Gloat at seeing me in such humility

2. Why do I see you strive for worldly wealth
When your hands grasp but triviality

3. If you had any wisdom or asked the wise
Much could be gained through frugality

4. A man is shamed when shame becomes his way
Seeking plunder where plunder abounds

5. Count your hopes as you wish and hold to them
Purity of hands is better than gold found

6. If you weep to wet your face, it will not help
Though you take from men's hands bounty profound
