Were it not for the quickness of the camels

11. Tell those whose night is short: Beware
For nights since you left have been long

12. How excellent is sleep - I see nothing in it
Other than your image visiting me

13. It is no use standing at length, my friend
Questions will not bring back answers

14. Truly, the encampment only has meaning with
Those dwelling in it - without them it is but an example

16. A difficult separation, like the cracking of a water skin
In the palm, though it still held liquid

17. So it is forbidden for the eyes when you have disappeared

18. And distant is the cleft of a heart torn apart
When you left, bidding farewell or otherwise

19. Time has a day when you left Ghaddad
Setting out from it what cannot be said

20. Its light erased, so that it was merely
A night whose crescent had set

21. You were its sun, and in the noonday heat
And heat of al-Hajir, you were its shade

22. Oh shame - he who saw you travelling
Towards evil, with the opportunity to do so

23. You forbade it before getting entangled in it
Rarely does maneuvering bring benefits

24. News that saddened hearts, even if
It was brought by a messenger from the north

25. It came from the brilliant youth, as
Light shines on the side of the plain

26. We were deceived by it - how often
Have good looks and beauty deceived people

27. We have tested you, Ibn Hamd, in speech
To the utmost extent - the men stayed away

28. And we knew you - you never asked
About vile words, or how they were said

29. And we freely acknowledged that if
We were to tyrannize, our might and left hand

30. Time does not change, my people, what
Saddened me about the one I loved

31. Every day from its regions frightens me
For security - either loss or destruction

32. It shocked me about you, and you had been
With what fates brings - I was not prepared

33. And it showed me that the world is not
Without flaw, nor any matter perfect

34. We remain amongst those who bore us but
Boredom cannot benefit the captive

35. No words of hope from them, and he who has
No hopeful words has no actions

36. And if graciousness is lacking, then granting
Kindness and favor is from them

37. Count, Ibn al-Hussein, all those who have
No paternal or maternal uncle as honorable

38. The disease of his hatred is not what darkened the night
And shone at dawn

39. And he makes you think he aims at your aims
While in truth the arrows are only towards you

40. A group who were too ambitious, and in
What they spend are the measly and the paltry

41. They do not hide good deeds nor are their
Cloaks dragged in doing good

42. You see them content to minimize
Speaking ill of enemies as wealth multiplies

43. As if hopes in them were tracts
Covered over by the sands

44. You are a stranger among them, though people
Of love for them are many and have wealth

45. So be warned of them - the despicable will not
Endure, even if tethered with licit cord
