1. You visited us one night when we were anxious
As we folded up the tent without setting it up

2. Your visit, even if untrue, was beneficial
And relieved us from the stranglehold of sighs

3. It was a pleasure where no blame was allowed
Nor any command of the devil obeyed

4. I held myself back though worry spurred me
Like the spurring of winds on mounds of ruins

5. What did you want with what you bestowed on me?
I was comforted from the anguish of a strange valley

6. How did the vigor of youth without fasteners
Nor crookedness to gray hair and bending startle me?

7. I never thought one free yet cornered
Would come at night's wings a quarter imprisoned

8. I swore by the house, refuge of those taking shelter
There between glorification and sanctification

9. They came to it burdened with a sin I shielded them from
And left it with vain oaths, worthless promises

10. By the two Holy Sites and those who sacrificed
At al-Jamarāt from measured bushels

11. The blood they spilled in Mina, and how
They scattered in Najif then trampled

12. I spend my money on those who seek it
A portion of wealth saddens my purse

13. Remembrance of me, even if I am evicted
The talk of men and lines of manuscripts

14. If I remain, I will ride the sublime
Glory between dawn and nightfall

15. And for hopes and needs, I will attain them
Through feats despite obstacles

16. If I am destroyed as enemies wished to rubble
My building and foundation will not collapse

17. If I am lost, the brave and lions when
I attack are not lost on an unlucky day

18. Ask about my strikes and stabs in the heat
Of war, the necks of warriors and skulls of horses

19. Thrusts leave their necks in my hands
Shared between severed and trampled

20. The white swords roar in the bodies and
Limbs of men like the sounds of bells

21. They came at daybreak with no wounds or traces
Then withdrew between beaten and trampled

22. I am the one who makes every unruly horse yield
And I remain among enemies untamed

23. May Allah not abandon any who lies down
On earthenware, my saddle or rug

24. No eye has seen me wearing
Shame or clad in disgraceful attire

25. I was denied glory unjustly though my eyes
Saw no feats unless unsullied

26. I have picked fine traits beyond them with my hands
What excellence in merit unless picked?

27. Be master of the summit of all chieftains
Or not, but be singular at the bow's apex

28. If your home is empty with no beauty
Then my home is not deprived of it

29. If you are steeped in the people's blame
Then I am steeped in blame without being soaked

30. If you refrain from the hymns of the sublime
My pause is in the valley of virtue, my confinement

31. I have not been sullied with shame among men
Nor has touching the stars been my staining

32. Do not house me, my nature you know
Save next to the lanterns' niches

33. As if their faces from its light robbed
The gleam of dawn and the lights of candles

34. And do not guide me to the valley of indolence
Or the cliffs of villains and trunks of brambles

35. It is no favor of yours to house me
Alongside the pure, quarters of pimps

36. Without my guidance, no tribe could
Find the ways of speech or standards of principles

37. I studied it, so it fills the eye - you see it
Though views are new, untaught

38. I explain it until I reveal what was assumed
To be known, just as something sensed

39. None have walked it unless my tracks were followed
None have harvested but my trees and plants

40. Before I purified its elite, it was
Wavering between fraud and deception

41. Ruined, its adornment the ages' ruins
Unlucky in fortune, but for my confinement
