5. A tragedy befell the Commander of the Faithful
And sorrow in us is a visitor that cannot be veiled

6. No lofty or pretentious one was spared from it
Or difficult and rugged road was impeded

7. If the likes of it could be warded by valor
The brave wearing armor would have prevailed

8. Those who plunge into the tumult of battle
With swords dripping blood and stained

9. And those who attack the abode of death
With hearts like rock that do not waver

10. A people when they carry spears and show defiance
Mounting sorrow that cannot be mounted

11. Or launch into a battle without retreating
Or overcome in a glorious victory without being overcome

12. A sorrow for one missed whose loss
Showed glory and might to be barren and desolate

13. The land after verdure it has none
Except the sparsely vegetated and arid plain

14. While people are either silent and humble
Or bewildered, having shed their faรงade

15. If the prime of youth passes it has attained
Virtues not attained by the elderly

16. Piety the men admired and chastity
That not even the devout recluse could maintain

17. We said when they carried him above his throne
He floated over the summits of men and settled

18. Behind him the generous weep profusely
One laments while another eulogizes

19. Who twisted the arm of this protector into demise
That he obeyed, or how was the formidable fettered?

20. Patience, O Commander of the Faithful, we have not ceased
To adopt your manners of patience and discipline

21. You commanded composure in the face of misfortune
And showed in your sermons where composure lies

22. You mounted the saddles of every mighty one
When riders were few and the mount was dear

23. You confronted torrents in the shade of spears
With piercing their fringes aflame

24. You were wary that you diminish your brilliance
Or detract from your share or stumble

25. And when you remain unharmed from harm
Then let harm in others toss and turn

26. You shared your fate finding consolation from condolence
Yet fate vanquishes others while you prevail

27. It does not harm us while our swords are sharpened
Burnished, that if they slip the blade would be marked

28. You are a sun fixed in its horizon
And guiding stars for us from every sun that orbits

29. And if the seas within us remain of you
Full, then let the far flung buckets be drained

30. And if with sorrow a shoulder of ours slumps
Then many shoulders with us after that persevere

31. Two stars - this one rises its flashing
Fills the eyes while that from us sets

32. Or two blessings - this one abandoned
Hoarded forever and the other plundered

33. A root with two branches - this one withered
Withering while this one flourishing and burgeoning

34. Or a hillside aggrieved by some of its slopes
While slopes after that even steeper remain

35. Or a wild cat whose claws were not all torn out
All were uprooted except one claw that endured

36. What is this struggle for survival when indeed
It is a fleeting condition and a flickering mirage

37. The liberal and the stingy have tasted death
And the beloved and hated have come to it

38. One hurries to his death while the other delays
One rises at its advent while the other sets

39. And we blame the days for their oversights
But to blame what is foreordained does not avail

40. No benefit except that it harms
Or desire except that it makes one wary

41. And when the disturbance of events clears
The water is sweet but shortly muddied again

42. So pride of the Prophet's uncles you are
The most immaculate plants among the people and purest

ุฃูŽุฒูƒู‰ ุงู„ู…ูŽุบุงุฑุณ ููŠ ุงู„ุฃู†ุงู… ูˆุฃุทูŠุจู

43. The inheritance of the Prophet is yours and abode of his station
And the revelation recited to you and transcribed

ูคูฃ. ุฅูุฑุซู ุงู„ู†ุจูŠู‘ู ู„ูŽูƒู… ูˆุฏุงุฑ ู…ูู‚ุงู…ูู‡ู
ูˆุงู„ูˆุญู’ูŠู ูŠูุชู„ู‰ ุจูŠู†ูƒู… ุฃูˆ ูŠููƒุชุจู

44. The chill is yours, the staff, you are the
Closest branches to it and most akin

ูคูค. ูˆุงู„ุจูุฑู’ุฏู ููŠูƒู… ูˆูŽุงู„ู‚ุถูŠุจู ูˆูŽุฃูŽู†ุชู…ู ุงู„ู’
ุฃูŽุฏู†ูŽูˆู’ู† ู…ู† ุฃุบุตุงู†ู‡ ูˆุงู„ุฃู‚ุฑุจู

45. Your father quenched people with his bucket
And made lawful and the year was arid

46. His leadership was sealed with you, over it
For the rest of time, control centered in you

47. It is a plateau none can ascend without you
Or a rough trail none can tread but you

48. God has ruled it is a robe for you
Never to be stripped, and a structure not to crumble

49. How many coveting it from other than you
Were scattered by the leaping swords

ูคูฉ. ูƒูŽู… ุทุงู…ูุนู ู…ูู† ุบูŽูŠุฑููƒู…ู’ ููŠ ู†ูŠู„ู‡ุง
ููŽุฑูŽู‚ุชู’ ู…ูุงุฑูู‚ูŽู‡ ุงู„ุณู‘ูŠูˆู ุงู„ูˆูุซู‘ูŽุจู

50. And hopefuls of reaching some of its slopes
Did not attain that hope and were disappointed

ูฅู . ูˆูŽู…ูุคู…ู‘ู„ูŠู† ูˆูู„ูˆุฌูŽ ุจูŽุนุถู ุดูุนุงุจู‡ุง
ู„ูŽู… ูŠูŽุจู„ูุบูˆุง ุฐุงูƒูŽ ุงู„ุฑู‘ุฌุงุกูŽ ูˆุฎููŠู‘ุจูˆุง

51. We came to you to solace our grief so bestow upon us
Solace, the like of which would be granted

52. And be gentle with a heart bearing the burdens of the world
While speech despairs and straits are ample

53. And take us on the paths of composure for we
Follow your guidance, and to your path, proceed
