1. Yearning carries me away, and languor takes its toll,
Weariness weighs down my eyelids, boredom dulls my soul.

2. Love is a wanderer that passed my heart one day,
Too busy was I to grasp it, and my chance slipped away.

3. I've lived a tranquil life, spurning the snare of love,
No coquetry allures me, no seductress with a glove.

4. If I wished, I'd pitch a tent, shun the crowd, live alone,
Without companions save the sand dunes and the stone.

5. The camel, hugging the road, carries the wayfarer,
Who left his homeland when fortunes did confer.

6. When luck smiled on his land he left in haste to roam,
Severing relations and breaking family homes.

7. He strides uphill to win the heights through steady pace,
His feet escaping stumbles by God's guiding grace.

8. And when triumph's decreed for the noble youth by fate,
Words pardon him, and even those who blame abate.

9. My faith, though twisted by dissent and false attacks,
Is straightened by the creeds of Ahmad and Ibn Hanbal.

10. When my views were distorted by the times, anon,
I held to them, scheming, maneuvering, holding on.

11. And fate lures us to set out, travel far and wide,
Journeys enchant us, and new vistas we aspire.

12. How soon life's goal draws near! How fleet our days take wing!
Morn is our life, and nightfall death's reckoning.

13. When youth pursues its course, untouched by schemes of man,
No tricks of time can halt the divinely drafted plan.

14. Thrown on the road of fate, my provisions are these:
Solutions for each problem, ways to face each unease.

15. Does hope mislead, beguiling me to follow its call,
While humiliation dogs the steps of hope's thrall?

16. Men all look down on me, no equal can I see,
None stand tall in my eyes, none match my bravery.

17. Why should I plead excuses? Time and pain will come
To fell the man who seeks escape by excuses numb.

18. Each sweet thing pains my eyes, yet honey I've tasted,
And every day a weary friend leans his weight on my back.

19. When I reach Hussein's shrine, may those who visit thrive,
And may those who love him enjoy long, worthy lives.

20. The imams amassed devotees drawn by Hussein's light,
His love united clans once fractured in hostile fight.

21. In every knowing heart he has a special place,
For every noble deed, his life provides the base.

22. solace for mankind, a wellspring ever renewed,
His remembrance uplifts the soul when spirits are low.

23. Where promises bind, gifts rain down in plenty,
And words bear fruit, fused to deeds beneficent.

24. When eloquence adorns the words of one upright,
Prattle is hushed, and even critics stand polite.

25. Though slander circulated and doubt spread its stain,
His noble mien dispelled it, as light swallows all bane,

26. God bless you! May the earth enrich where you have trod,
May streams abound, palm trees thrive, and cool shade applaud.

27. You braced men's wills when disaster raised its din,
And comforted frightened hearts as death phalanx closed in.

28. When fate raged, clashing its swords in fell disease,
Only the brave stood firm, weakly souls fled with unease.

29. When friendship flees, each rebuke makes rancor rawer,
And shackles of regret weigh down the back ever lower.

30. They see you excel and seek to outrun you in vain,
Even with a head start, envy would make them refrain.

31. When hearts quest but cannot attain what they hold dear,
Despair's the most bitter herb for the soul to bear.

32. You gladden your friends, though Time has made them sad and sere,
When branches are barren, you make green shoots appear.

33. To defend me suffices; you're a sanctuary, a guard,
Sheltering my clan, protecting where I am marred.

34. You raised me high when I was sunk in oblivion's mire,
You revived my ruined fortunes, gave me all I desire.

35. You brought me glory higher than all know; none can ascent
To where you've raised me; I'm above all other men.

36. I will thank you as long as my feet tread earth's expanse
And my thoughts aspire to high goals and souls can entrance.

37. May your feast day delight you, no sorrow come nigh,
As sins are washed away like dirt by rain from the sky.

38. On this day, may you prosper and triumph yet higher,
As honor revives with your coming, glowing like fire.

39. Make peace with time's wounds, though empires fall and die,
Guard your self, though it pains, don't let your neck lie

40. exposed to the flames of sickness and world-weary sighs.
