1. Let passion be followed by the disgraceful one
No morning drink today, nor a beloved

2. Neither tears flowing behind an instigator
Flowing, nor a heart that would beat for it

3. Had the passionate known what
Passion had yielded before, they would not have fallen in love

4. O beautiful camel, let me not see you after her
I yearn for your radiant face

5. Had I not exposed my essence to passion
My heart would not have been stolen by passion

6. Neither your arched branch leads me
Nor do your tender twigs beckon me

7. I used to walk bent by passion, suffering
But now my heart is free of passion

13. It visited, but only its memory visited
While between us lies a deserted enclosure

14. A bleak wasteland with only the howl of a hyena
Had it not been for a rescue ship therein

15. Those who board it would have perished
Who will excuse me for a time that whenever

16. I sought rest from it, I despaired?
It specifically afflicts its free ones with harm

17. And endows prosperity to those it endows
Its company is crooked, never straightening

18. And quick to evil, never gentle
At times it widens its domains

19. And at others it constricts
Had I spent my honor on it

20. I would have spent it forever
The dignity of a man is to curb his needs

21. While people exaggerate their needs and requests
So what does a despicable one care for wishes

22. Is the neck of glory sated or the lightning spear?
And whenever he strives for greatness

23. His arm and elbow hold him back
A new honor not to be worn down by time

24. An intact garment not to be torn
And maybe an idle man claims in pretense

25. What the worried and restless one can't attain
And without a man reaching his full potential

26. A cleft remains in the days that can't be scaled
And everything whose beauty pleased us

27. Is a mirage in the daylight that flickers
The love of this ruin is an incurable

28. Deep-seated disease that has no remedy
Where are the departed who camped the summits

29. Then were torn after they had torn?
As if after they had set

30. They never rose and shone again
They trampled splendor with their feet

31. Cast down but not to be picked up again
And every star shining in the darkness

32. The East throws it toward the West
As if it were an ember from firebrands

33. Or a remnant of flames left to kindle
How many they brought down from the peaks

34. And ascended to glory when they ascended
Until when it came time to reach the goal

35. They were led to what they hated or driven
They fell to death and how many casualties

36. Had no cautious sympathizer to avail?
We are a people who seek the heights

37. We grieve or perish in the days
God has not created the like of us

38. In the bygone days, nor will He create
How many who aimed to rise up our stumps

39. Lofty were unable, nor could attain
Or overtake what expanded of our affairs

40. In seeking glory, but couldn't overtake
I have told the people, and how many ambitious ones

41. Awaken to falsehood, or slumber in vain?
Where are our great fish from the ocean depth?

42. And from the bounty of our tumultuous sea?
In the forest, and the forest is an allegory for you

43. A lion without shame of prey that stalks
In his grip is the figure of destiny

44. Skinning hides without slicing them
His deadly stroke from afar

45. A rescuer if he wills, or one who slaughters
So how many slain around him for havoc

46. And how many wounded around him pour out blood?
As if a thread upon wrath

47. He is forever indignant and enraged
Vacate those whose inhabitants are a people

48. Who are more befitting of it than others
Their canal of glory cannot be ascended

49. And their stream of generosity cannot be preceded
A people, when they gain opportunity in battle

50. They shed blood, ignite, and burn
With every sharpened spear

51. White or brown raised blue
No champion resembles a vicious devourer

52. And no loyal one resembles an annexed one
And no equal near one with a disability

53. The inner side of a man's foot and his spur
You have slipped in a twisting path for it

54. With a gate to glory but they did not slip
And you thought glory an easily grasped prize

55. Seized in the palm by whoever seizes
Until we saw it in your hands

56. Slipping, sliding, or tearing
And beneath you due to the baseness of your deeds

57. Is a gate to its plains locked shut
Some people sought sanctuary

58. A draught we drank the purest they drank
They are not of pride nor near it

59. Nor for them in its sanctuary a place
If asked while in debt, they are stingy

60. Or gathered in battle, they flee
And nothing flows eternally in the world

61. Except what their speech despised
Say to the relators of poetry, race therein

62. A rugged generosity not to be trodden
As if it were a garden in a hilltop

63. Or tender youth, thin and delicate
It turned away from softness as if

64. Dawn and splendor dwelt within it
So how many people whose

65. Virtues of poetry remained though they are gone
