1. By Allah, if I had wealth, I would have hoarded it,
And not asked for anything except success.
١. واللَّه لا كان لِي مالٌ أضِنّ به
ولا رددتُ بغير النُّجْحِ سُؤّالي
2. I would have stored nothing but generosity and honor
As treasures I did not lock with keys.
٢. ولا اِدَّخرتُ سوى جودٍ ومكرُمةٍ
ذَخائراً لم أبتْ فيها بأوجالِ
3. Wealth is my wealth when I am generous one day,
And what I left behind is not mine.
٣. المالُ مالي إِذا يوماً سمحتُ به
وما تركتُ ورائي ليس من مالي
4. Tomorrow I will be tossed in a barren wasteland,
Smooth and vacant on the side of separation.
٤. وفي غدٍ أنا مرموسٌ بمقفرةٍ
ملْساءَ عاطلةٍ من جانبِ الخالِ
5. Separation, even if I had family and roots,
Shame, even if I had on robes.
٥. خالٍ وإنْ كنتُ ذا أهلٍ وذا نَشَبٍ
عارٍ وإن كان بالبَوْغاء سِربالي
