One who death's taste will never sate

Tiring the racers, outlasting the chaste

Or comes seeking on day’s face

4. So many disasters shake our souls
Stealing loved ones, severing close holds

5. So many hopes blind our eyes
And the wind of vanity, we so unwise

6. In the abode of evanescence we love
That which loyalty did never prove

7. We yearn for either a companion or estates
Yet yearner, why yearn for unworthy mates

8. Had I been true to experience’s due right
I’d have cut off fate’s stumbling plight

9. To the tombs we descend every night
In the desert of dust to rest our plight

10. Such news tears awake sleeping eyes
And sets trembling hearts to take flight

11. Unwanted came my guests in hosts
And how often what the soul never boasts

12. Affection I wished was not true
And how many a killer I thought loving and true

13. What struck me of the arrow of fate
Had first pierced your skin, my mate

14. Had I taken your full burden to carry
I'd have shouldered it, being bound and wary

15. If a branch of yours is withering
Days left your trunk rising

16. If a star set after its emergence
Suns left your horizons effulgence

17. Fate with its injuries and stains
Left your towering mountains and plains

18. With the robe still on, no damage is done
When nights have shredded it thread by thread undone

19. In you and in one like you lies the cure
When misfortunes strike rapid and unsure

20. Cursed is he who was blessed in your place
And lost who gave him yesterday grace

21. After taking for us from you a share
Nights denied us of your gracious care

22. I did not fear fate would block for us
With darkness the horizon's lustrous sight

23. Or the death knell would obscure in the night
Your abode, and the meadows’ flowered delight

24. O you whose justice and nature so fair
We accepted, perfect in morals and care

25. Let go what passed, be pleased with its prize
And trust the reward for those patient and wise
