1. The caravans marched atop the litters
While the distance offered no shelter

Where otherwise would be no upheaval

14. If miserly with gifts, would that you had
Neither impoverished, nor left wanting!

15. Stinginess may fill up your homes, would that
It might enrich and suffice the needy!

16. I am the eloquent - if I complained to you
Of the tyranny of passion, I am the adamant!

17. Happy the heart after being deemed hopeless
When the little girl sings her playful melodies

18. I swear by the Sacred House and pilgrims
Circling it, crowds flowing endlessly!

19. They perspired until they came to it worn down
Supported by hands, and surrounded by throngs

20. And the twostations - toward it, and from it -
The seekers of deliverance jostled and pushed

21. Were it not for its blessings, the dew would have no flow
Nor would the terrified have shade or cover

22. It does not bother me that above my tomb
There will be no crown - the crown is my due

23. I am foolish - pleased that flaws appear
Above me, while my virtues stay concealed

24. That noble deeds are few, yet I have
Abundant, delicious fruits and revenue

25. Those who laugh thinking they have the day
Have nothing but false hopes for tomorrow!

26. Leave those whose beauty and pride depends
On fine garments and brocades sewn with gold

27. The clothes of ones like me are chaste when whole
While my garb when meeting is threadsbare, rent

28. Tell those gone mad, angered by Beauty - what
Path to ascend high will they ever invent?

29. Had you wished to know, you'd have known
My knowledge - no barriers block sciences!

30. Were it not for me, you would be - had you been fair -
Ushers-in of all troubles, tax collectors!

31. All virtues are in my hands - you have
No individuals nor pairs of good traits

32. And my principles are young, fresh sprouts - no
Morals nor established ways of conduct

33. I have appeared - nothing can hide my fame
Among people - no folding nor bonding could tuck

34. You feared me, and over your heads
My blazing star shines, despite your dislike

35. So gifts are sterile from you, while I have
From them, in every age, progeny and breed

36. There is no sincerity in you - you are
Turbid, while the sincere are clear extract

37. Rise and show me dependent, alone, your follower!
Leave commanding followers in droves and packs

38. Flaws are cloaked around you - no way or means
To shake them off, no release from their grasp

39. Until moments of joy with you are so short
And pregnancies - burdens constantly clasped

40. If you accept ruin, no wish will be fulfilled
Nor food-bags filled up enough to be clasped

41. Who will be stingily equal to me, so neither
Ease nor hardship, wealth nor poverty lapsed?

42. And when harsh times befall me in this life
It is he who thickens their burdens and pangs

43. Neither barrenness and fertility are equal
Nor paralysis and a turbulent, billowing sea

44. We were destroyed, exhausted as we are, driven
Between foes, led on by endless devices

45. We obtained in life only its bitterness
And loss within it, and bewildered distraction

46. No good in anxieties without resolve in us
And a register with no decisive entries

47. Necessity dictates that along with soil must be
Light tapping when heavy torrents pour down
