1. Your glance, like lightning from Najd, captivates
It fades on horizons then reappears

2. And when the Living desired hardship
I lost hope for remaining among the living

3. My life flowed from my eyelids as tears
While the ignorant thought they were weeping

4. If only mounts, when carrying our passion,
Were restful at night, and mournful when ridden

5. For if they had not warned us with their departure
The gentle rain would startle us with its violence

6. Before the separation, a raven in the branches of the meadow called to me
The most marked of them on the bough

7. Greetings to the king of kings, led
By a guardian whispering greetings that make him listen

8. Remaining in the abode of the virtuous
While men forget the virtuous and squander

9. You who opened the closed minds of kings
So they all venture toward or follow your path

10. You have none in the heavens enthroned
Except the resting place of the sun as your resting place

11. If there are people who did no harm and helped
You in us do harm and help

12. You are of a people whose faces
Are like stars appearing in the night of battle

13. Legs race toward the most high place
And arms reach out in the contested places

14. Their colors do not bleach even in harshness
Feared, while the color of the day is fiery

15. Their mouths are barren from every plains
And their homes are ruined from every leveled land

16. Their hands flow when life freezes
To help the needy, and they assemble

17. Rushing to the cry of the desperate with courage
In every palm the white of swords shine

18. If they stab on an awful day, they expand
And if they feed during famine, they satisfy

19. They are balanced like mountains if weighed
While many reckless ones rush to death among them

They are only elevated ambitions

21. At the Pleiades, or a guided youth
How often in a day of battle you witnessed the tumult

22. You have only striking and stabbing as your coat of mail
In your grasp the Yemeni sword cutting

23. Not every sword in the fist cuts
You are nonchalant with the reins as if

24. Of resolve, not sated or saturated from drinking
You do not see but the peaks as meadows

25. And the whiteness of mountain goats drinking spring water
When they knew mischief crept into them

26. And the quaking of betrayal flew into them
You saw only a united tribe split

27. And pacts from them torn
Everything you relied on from them failed

28. So for the protector of the lost, I will remain
You were pleased with gentleness until you wore it

29. As a motto, but it did not churn or shed
That which yesterday was defiant

30. Returned obedient, a signed settlement
If you wished when they strayed

31. And sought the unacceptable and rebelled
You would have dragged them into the ground beneath the columns

32. Like the scattered remains in the desert shaken
None heard from them after that

33. Nor remained from them after that one who hears
I am content with your scripture as a treasure I keep

34. And I am not one the people would find convincing
So I have only refuge in your shade

35. And I have only your gardens for pasture
I had only permanence in you

36. And I had only your land as my square
May God not separate us

37. Nor keep distance between us and cause dissent
If I were to bid you farewell on a day of separation

38. I would bid farewell only to life
Either you would be for me, and in my fist

39. Otherwise, I aspire to nothing but you
If you support me against enemies

40. Then I would not care if they divide or gather
My love for you does not awaken with blame

41. And I was not obsessed but with what is most obedient
Some people rebuke me for obeying you

42. Yet nothing pleased you but what is most obedient
None misguided me in advising you but the misguided

43. Or a man immersed in the unseen and obsessed
If they were equitable they would not blame me for a passion

44. To a heart that does not twist or pull away
They shook but who does not soften

45. They threatened but who does not shudder
How many arrows did not hit those it was shot at

46. How many words from one who is not heard
Beware arousing one with adept speech

47. Whose words roam the country and cut
It did not harm me that I was blamed falsely

48. I never stopped a life of honesty and clarity
What frightened them did not startle me

49. So I do not shudder from their worries
If a glutton insulted me, I swallowed it

50. So I have a blessing from God I swallow
I composed therein meanings I concealed

51. You upon them without other are most aware
My allusions were not in secret

52. But I do not illuminate evil, I repel
When I speak of you my words are eloquent

53. While many a tongue stumbles, impaired in speech
How many poems I have in praising you

54. They rise upon horizons on earth
They are mountains while all poems

55. Are vanity, springs, and collector channels
You mastered this celebration, may one like it remain

56. While the nose of one who wishes evil upon you is cleft
You go and return in time the arbitrator

57. Of people, giving whom you wish and refusing whom you wish
Your branch never withers for eternities
