١. ألم تَرَني في كلِّ يومٍ وليلةِ
أحنُّ إلى من لا يحنُّ حنيني
2. And lamenting one buried in the smooth sands of a barren wasteland
Oh, would that I had called on other than the buried one
٢. وأندُبُ مرموساً بملساءَ قَفرةٍ
فيا ليتني ناديتُ غيرَ دفينِ
3. As though when you were cut off from me, destroyed
You were cut off from me, the most beautiful and fresh
٣. كأنّي وقد قُطِّعتَ عنّيَ هالكاً
تقطّع منّي أكْحَلى ووَتِيني
4. The calamities of fate have broken the branches of my palm tree
And what befell the roots befell the branches
٤. فَرَتْ نائباتُ الدّهرِ أغصانَ دَوْحَتِي
ولاقَ أُصولي ما أصاب غُصوني
5. If, after my companion, some life remains in me
It will be but little before I follow my companion
٥. فإنْ بقيتْ بعد القرينِ حُشاشتي
قليلاً فإنِّي لاحقٌ بقريني
