1. The means of goodness have narrowed
Nothing remains but contentment

2. So stick to it with moderation
And make it your most precious merchandise

3. For the contented slave has known it
Then made it his treasure

4. And beware of evil habits
That have caused prolonged famine

5. And estrangement, separation, and even loss of religion
In land, sea-they have long cried out

6. For loved ones
That some have not seen for a while

7. And the reason for this altogether
Is the loss of obeying

8. The One of great bounty, my Lord
Who granted us contentment

9. And not preserving the guidance
He ordered us to follow

10. The Master of masters, the one
God has honored with intercession

11. O Lord, help us stay guided on the path of the community
Of the righteous companions in action and listening

12. And let me end my life with good when its time is up
And may prayers and peace always beseech

Of supreme eloquence and skill

14. And upon his family and companions
Like the waving of a branch in the wind
