1. What do people say on the path
Its principle is to purify the heart through investigation

2. Of anything other than Allah, our Great Lord
O Lord, purify our hearts, O our Reckoner

3. And its bond is to occupy the whole heart
With the mention of our Generous Lord

4. And its end is annihilation completely
In Allah, my Lord, Creator of mankind

5. This is the path of the prophets and messengers
And the saints of Allah, the people of virtue

6. Then know that the purification of the heart
Is that a person loves none but the Lord

7. Worship becomes the delight of his eye
For it he leaves every habit

8. He sees the disobedience of Allah as a blazing fire
And like poisons and drowning waters

9. And every heart inclining to other than Him
Then it, oh friend, is a slave to passions

10. And if you want to seek perfection
And success in the hereafter and in the destination

11. You must have solitude in the sands
And detachment in the interior of mountains

12. And bury your existence in heedlessness
And leave all people and their nonsense

13. And remember your God and be intimate with none but Him
At every time and breathe none but Him

14. And if a command comes from the Merciful
Then be content with it, you will winapproval

15. And man is laden with the eye of Allah upon him
And with blessings overwhelmed though he is heedless

16. So it is obligatory upon him to thank the Lord
And have patience during tribulation and hardship

17. And patience is the head of goodness and faith
And it is mighty during trials

18. So let the person beware of complaining
And excessive lamenting during pain

19. And let him turn to the All-Knowing, All-Powerful
With his heart and innermost and outwardly

20. And let him depend on Him in all
His matters, insignificant or lofty

21. And let him perceive the wisdom in destiny
And in all harm and tribulation

22. And let him think good of the Benevolent One
Of abundant grace and lofty stature

23. And let him not suspect or complain
Of the response from the Generous Giver

24. And know that everything is for a reason
And for that reason there is an appointed time

25. And every distress is followed by relief
Ease comes and hardship departs

26. And be content with what is made easy of this life
And leave what is beyond and difficult

27. And whoever is certain that his Master sees him
Would be shy to hope or fear anyone but Him

28. And whoever is certain of Allah's gaze upon him
Would choose only what He decrees for him

29. The Harmful, the Beneficial, our Guardian Lord
So beware fearing others, O believer

30. And leave all people, pay them no heed
Nor rely on or incline toward them

31. For they cannot benefit themselves
Or ward off harm for their own souls
