1. The graying of the head after youth
Is a warning against the passions of folly,

2. For gray hair is the harbinger of death,
While for the youthful reproach is light.

3. Welcome gray hair as a visitor,
Whom the Merciful has watered the cleft of youth.

4. Time still casts at the youth
Arrows of calamities at every moment.

5. With the whiteness of the head after
It was for a time like the wing of a raven,

6. Or with something revealed in power
After supporting the youth of vigor,

7. Or with hints of a censurer perhaps,
As if among those who survived were comrades.
