1. Oh would the time of companionship return
Or would a star like ours rise

2. Those who bid farewell were ever eager
While those alive, forlorn and bidding adieu

3. Had they any knowledge like the one we possess
Their eyes would have feasted to utmost and bid adieu

4. After their departure, I felt disgraced and weakened
Severely dejected, yet firm against ordeals

5. Today I’m fooled by the mirage with hope anew
While my wretched cell seems like comfort I pursue

6. Never had the sword of glorious Hashim ever thought
That after them I would be in such lowly venue

7. I opposed what they intended to commit
While time does what it desires and puts in continuum

8. So I let them cry loudly to their hearts’ content
Thinking I’m oblivious and unable to construe

9. No amount of greed made me lean their way
Until their cheeks and brows contorted in virtue

10. Allah does not keep heroes bereaved for long
They fled dishonor galloping without further ado

11. And my address to them was at Manbij’s ruins
Our swords glittering as our throats emit halloo

12. Do not be stingy to stand your ground
Where pigeons drink and the ground makes pleasant hue

13. Fearing disgrace, Qais took flight
When he saw it coming back to subdue

14. So he went to heal his heart with pigeons
As pigeons are the cure for degradation anew

15. It was never like Khalid to accept vility
So why be timid and accept what is undue

16. I took pride in Abul Ala and his praises
Riding high on their steeds that did not rest or sleep

17. Snatching vigor from each valiant soul
As if the four winds envied their fleet

18. We took a swig from battles of Jawshan
As the sun settled beneath the distant blue

19. Tearing veils of darkness with our train
Its stars around the galaxy subdue

20. Sipping from it unquenched and unrestrained
Bending again to drink without halt or queue

21. Till dawn shone like a smiling mouth
Of a tall, beautiful beloved in rendezvous

22. And we played in morning breeze sa’da tunes
Whose fleeing whiffs glimmer and imbue

23. Their passion almost drove them to madness
As if horses prodded by whips in pursuit

24. Skulls bounced with joy after swordsmen
Cast their sticks no longer of use

25. To the gazelles, Majid appeared
The most splendid, beautiful and tall in view

26. Lofty is the bridge of his nose, radiant his face
Dazzling in every glance, imposing and bold too

27. We terrified the prey till they shook in their boots
And the prey shaken with fear unsettled in lieu

28. When the hawks hovered above
The eagles carried it higher into the blue

29. Why is it I see you dissatisfied with a night
Unless you and guest hunger and sleep without due

30. And when a good deed is met with ingratitude
You are not discouraged from what you continue to do

31. Or is it from the swords we seek our courage
Or is it from your courage, swords shaped anew

32. You rendered the kingdom’s glory needless of aid
And foiled the like of schemes never foiled in virtue

33. You continue to foil each ambitious glance
Till the covers of the brave poet no more shine through

34. And when his father saw the peninsula inflamed
Impossible to access or extract like stubborn glue

35. Then the racers like arrows flew
Tearing the veils of gloom rendered in two

36. You were catapulted beyond the enemies’ dreams
Like time you give whatever you desire to endue

37. They disliked your piercing when you extended
A hand whose fingers were spears unleashed unto

38. The seasoned spear in war needs no enhancement
As long as your fingers around it wrap robust and true

39. The tribes of Luqman fled from its equation
As swords flailed and tongues withdrew

40. It's as if the swords that day you met them
Bowed down to you in ultimate debut

41. And they, guardians of faith, when assembled
An army that filled the horizon in its breadth and view

42. Knew the night before, encountering your assault
That meager sustenance cannot their bellies subdue

43. When the banner cried for help, you supported
With a hand lions cower from in fear of its claw

44. And horsemen who cherish not their souls
Save when they toss life and abandon it sans virtue

45. When armors don they are the target
Of spears toward their chests and ribs that cut through

46. A people whose blood the Indian sword craves
Yet shame their honor never dared pursue

47. It took but a gaze from the onlooker
And you blew them away, disbanding troops hitherto

48. Turning tails, how you defeated them with a stab
That delivers death and a blow beyond rescue

49. An impetuous attack the spear dislikes to argue
As the spear passes without stutter or ado

50. Their heads and hands took to the air
Lowered and raised by the swords in remarkable hue

51. As if they mistook the stars for loose tresses
And their passions towards it let imaginations accrue

52. Each day has an unprecedented pinnacle in generosity
Belittling the past for what may ensue

53. You are our Qiblah, fasting and feasting
Most wondrous, like Indian swords that mete and hew

54. No state can incite you over another
Beyond you, who in calamity can stay their woe

55. Can the cause afford my fingers to falter?
As the inadequate hand begs in your debut

56. Like rain deprived from meadows and villages
At times, and gifted by barren valleys in dunes accrued

57. I shall tread like a hero expecting vibrancy
That even the nimble cloud has not yet viewed

58. My sojourn declines staying in one place
As time hates to keep beloved ones glued

59. Stop tormenting me O separation
For in my heart no place remains for your arrow to screw

60. A day hotter than embers in passion
And bitterer than losing one’s dear children when they were new
