1. I have not seen wine like sorrow as a healer,
Unless it meets the jealous as an advocate.

2. Nor like the zeal of honor for the avenger,
Nor like the flies of swords for the ignorant as a deterrent.

3. The pursuits of delusions fail their seeker,
While necessities come closer to the diligent.

4. I have not taken any secret to the noble,
As a friend, nor disclosed it to an enemy.

5. If my disease is hidden, I do not reveal it,
So what doctor informs people of what ails me?

6. The crown of the nation chose glory and selected
From honor horrors that whiten the temples.

7. In it the guide loses his head,
So the banners do not know its heights.

8. He folded his secret from his eyes and tongue
And woke up not content with a fleeting life.

9. He troubled the suspicions of fate to blunt its edge
And stoned whoever wished for desires.

10. One day austere, ascetic,
Another day relaxed, content.

11. His judgement tells what is in your heart
As if he was privy to the secrets of consciences.

12. Between the stars of Orion and Babylon
There is a plot that does not rest the enemies.

13. A hand that unsheathed spears and sharpened them
And persisted, arms bloodied, assailing.

14. His resolve shrinks from vile game
When peers are absent, he becomes withdrawn.

15. So engage them, his face shines
On arms whose shine adorns the Yemeni sword.

16. No troop has been equitable in combat
Masked, meeting bare swords.

17. I swore by spears that hug the loins
Of generous souls who love glories.

18. They saw its edge sweeter than humiliation
And more harmonious than a life of disgrace.

19. And by the royal time, beware
I see you the wolves of the sands protecting the livestock.

20. How excellent, the king of the land visited you noble
Seeking your view to cure the disease of disobedience.

21. Your brother who protects your sanctuary and fortifies
Your ascent and observes what you do not watch.

22. It pains him that you are touched by any blemish
Which leaves the noble virtues empty.

23. If your path amongst the elite is narrow
And your care for praiseworthy gains is void,

24. You have cast the ripe fruits of fine traits amazed
As if before you, you have not seen a caster.

25. Neither have you abandoned governance willingly
Nor I bade farewell to youth forcefully.

26. And everyday you ride a stumble
That deceives the observant turning a blind eye.

27. I shepherded you with gentle and stern eyes
Not angry with the hateful, appeased.

28. It assesses before the stab, a cultivated view
That blunts the fang of the spear, muzzled and restrained.

29. You lack in the noisy army a wise one
Even if you are not without a protector.

30. And when the embers of war kindled their fire
And prisoners no longer hoped for redemption,

31. The hammer of grudges overlooked every mistake
Forgetting among the people or feigning to forget.

32. And the conqueror turned away from the mention of resentments
Led by resolve, allowing bygones to be bygones.

33. If you blame everything you hated
You would blame the blowing winds.

34. By my life, he ignited spirits in his land
Raising it, pride residing in it.

35. The stars disappear at his rise
And the days of the months envy the nights.

36. A necklace of glory time forgot to string on him
Although years have pulled down the ruins.

37. And he measured the people of Shammar by the house of Muhraq
And sifted the diction of mankind and meanings.

38. It is the lovely night in every winter
That leaves the cheek of night darker in calamity.

39. Necessarily from a bleak cloud its birthmark flashes
Without clouds leaving the atmosphere gloomy.

40. Maybe its occurrence after hardship and affliction
In seclusion heals the darkness of my condition.

41. And you are pleased by a rain from the sands
While the meadows therein observe the livestock.

42. I think the tall-statured people will not leave it
Except for the year to pasture whatever is in the valley.

43. They will not accept half until they hasten
The fulfillment of debt that makes the sword the judge.

44. If the lowlands dried up before his march
He would carve a river in the plateau flowing.

45. With the white oryx he denies the gloom of night traveling
And with settlement masks the rising of the traversing sun.

46. He changes the relics of past generations
And makes the chronicles of kings a distraction.
