1. You will learn which of the two aims I want,
For our passions for men are fetters,

2. I love every spirited young man,
Who has a group that backs his resolve and his numbers,

3. The enemies jabber at him while he is determined,
Charging at what they hate and accusing,

4. He risks himself for the sake of praise,
But does a young man last forever in time?

5. And my fickle lord's madness when he is averse -
I endure it like the bending of the plow's wood,

6. I suffer from him a resentment that none can bear
Among the people but one who is resolute and calm,

7. He helps my rival against me, he does not help me,
And I defend him from disasters and drive them away,

8. Whenever I see the spear sloping towards him,
A throat intercepts it below his throat artery.

9. And I said you will learn that every virtue
Has an envier of its people and a jealous guardian,

10. And that the laws of men are ancient,
‘Aad inherited its hate and Thamud its misfortune,

11. But the crown of religion today has dissolved them
Over the ages so that no pacts remain in them,

12. A young man who deserted pleasures and graceful living,
Whose necksides are cooled by his garment's borders,

13. And he measured the marvels of things against himself
Until old age ascended over him while he was a youth,

14. Every day he has an idea to help
Between which a promise and a threat are executed,

15. In it descend resolves for the doer
And in it caravans of worries alight,

16. And he was graced with resolve, purpose, and attainment,
And an ambition for noble deeds distant,

17. And patience when harsh afflictions become manifest,
While the others remain sitting the active stand,

18. The brightness of his cheeks gleams
Through the sunlight like pillars at dawn,

19. The eggs of nests never birthed his like,
Nor the cycles of days while giving birth,

20. I dress whichever malady its cure cannot be found
And I know of the winds where they are generous,

21. And I pierce through their ranks with a spear
With which the sword is blind and the tongue slow,

22. Squadrons of his views and soldiers
March ahead of the army before its march,

23. Thirty months from the east of Persia
To Rome a resplendent, cutting blade,

24. And a thrust against the text of their spears
And naked over their shoulders only skins,

25. He discouraged them from the fortress's inhabitants
Wherever Allah wills, there he wills,

26. A punishment overlooking its edge above a watchtower
To see which huntresses hunt,

27. If you have not tasted sleep among them, then many times
You have stayed awake while disasters slumbered,

28. You have healed the hidden canker of perfidy,
Which schemes with Satan wherever he schemes,

29. If you left them one day, they would say
They rage and all the predators are black,

30. So O sheep who slept while their shepherd
Howled among the groves, eminent,

31. He called the Arameans' pasture from Jasim's belly
To the sands - its acid grows and increases,

32. And do not go down to the two valleys with a calamity
Which the gazelle's glitter woos,

33. I reckon the wind will guide him
To you between the two springs a courier,

34. And the partridges' twitter deceived her
From her vigor and her meadows,

35. Acting calmly to her while erecting a room for you
For the beasts of prey will certainly return,

36. And if she wandered and the necklace's order dissolved,
My greatest supposition is that she will come back,

37. In the encampment is a group I reckon
Would tempt you if iron bites iron,

38. If the cup of wine is given and adorned
For its goal the cups of solid gold,

39. And the genuine wine in its excess flows faster
So that nothing of artistry remains in it,

40. You wished in the amusement of talk to meet her,
And you are not happy unless you meet her,

41. Over her is a Persian spell
Whose stabs on the day of hurling are cast out,

42. And each of delicate frame is as if
Events newly created him,

43. Carnelians - as for their shine, it is lightning
Upon you, and as for their impact, it is thunder,

44. A dominant one accustoms them to striking skulls,
The Majestic One worshiped over people, Mighty.
