1. O goblets of wine, you are forbidden fruit
One year for you, and for the swords, one year

2. Sorrows turn sweet when endured
For lovesickness is healed by what caused it

3. If life were a companion, it would be
A stinging companion in adversities

4. How can I fear misfortunes when God is
My protector, and the best armor?

5. O peerless sword and magnificent spear
No days can replace you

6. Months and years passed joyfully with what you love
What can be said of you? Meanings are exhausted and words fall short

7. Before you were adorned, your sharp blades swept past
Not slowed by thick armor or white swords

8. Titles did not increase your beauty, you were
Already majestic and esteemed

9. You exceeded what the admirer thought of you
When the Imam tested you

10. A warrior tried swords but was not pleased
Except by the memorable, unfailing blade

11. On which the long swords and white blades have no effect
When their reins are pulled

12. Be forgiving, O He of abundant sins, as you hope
For forgiveness, though also vengeance

13. There is no intimate but euphoric intoxication
Which captured his mind more than wine

14. God protect a state whose eyes never sleep
With the outstretched arm of the courageous lion

15. Whose back cannot be attacked from behind
If you lead after servants and destiny's perfection

16. Then your father who protected it, though crowds pressed
And jostled behind it, prevented its back

17. As the well-guarded woman prevents impropriety
Though solicited insistently by men

18. He exalted it, though exaltation brings fits
Which people avoid undertaking

19. An unattainable pinnacle, which none can attain
By pursuing it, nor are feet equal to it

20. But the Buyids are empowered for high pursuits
And generous deeds are their system

21. Every year they don the robe of kingship
Greetings and peace be upon them

22. Like spear tips fluttering in battle
Banners and standards above them
