1. O You who sees everyone beneath His gaze
Why did You not say to fate when it complained of us

2. We have become needless of its requests
And we see nothing in it that avails us of You

3. Your enemies said, when their patience was tried
No ruse more effective than attacking us

4. With Your august omen, not an army, You vanquish us
And with fortune, not horses, You raid us

5. I have become, through loss, most merciful
And I was once, for kinsmen, a trusty pillar

6. Convey, conveyer, blame or reproach
To a brother whose steed casts him and he casts us

7. Why does dew, by bringing us nearer, distance us
And kinship, by drawing us closer, make us further

8. Had hands reached out to each other
Our foes would find no place among us to hate us

9. Come, let us forget what was said and what was said to us
And let us not indict yesterday's companions

10. Let us curb the hearing of lofty men from our warriors
And set a limit for it toward our enemies

11. If only that our latter emulate our former
We would be most upright of tribes

12. Spare yourself the joy in our separation
Wishing that time would ruin our pillars

13. None saw strife but he was aloof
Or sale's contract but was duped

14. Like a fish who you always see speared
But never see anyone by a spear pierced

15.
And if you refuse, we are of its stanchions

16. In a plateau none but our hands have scaled
When the whites of armored men expose it

17. Victory on an ominous day is certain
By the swords! For we, out of love for them

18. Almost sheathe them, not to be used amongst us
Why should they not be obscured by our needs

19. And fear of them in people's hearts suffice us?
If you aspire perforce to our treasury

20. Tether Suhayl to the Great Bear!
Were it not for fathers and that weakness is shame

21. He who seeks the heights would be a madman
Walk slowly or hastily to death

22. For if we do not meet it, it will meet us
My sight has wavered from its knowledge

23. And the steeds have twisted, fleeing and returning
Perhaps after abasement at its station

24. One day against the courts of the Byzantines they will cast us
In us is that pride which gave away wealth freely

25. Borrowing glory, ornamenting our glory
Horses whose tempest does not cease hounding

26. Al-Qayrawan, and horses trampling our enemies
To you have marched the people's restless treasures

27. As though for you alone wealth was stored
A trust which provision has betrayed

28. Availing neither worldly life nor religion
You have relied on an astute and watchful man

29. Healer of the youth with what has wearied our healers
One like Sapor, when omens descend

30. And it is said nothing of yours today will save us
When I tested men of no ethics

31. I tested him and found a wise and balanced mind
May the journeys of all seekers lead

32. To the corners of the earth, successful and secured
In every night and tender moment that dawns

33. May God increase your honor and enablement
Trust in the God whose ways you have tried

34. And leave off your suppositions
They only prevailed at their deathbeds
