1. Every word without your consent is hypocrisy
It is not a word unless you say, oh Iraq

2. It is not a word unless palm fronds stand in rows
And clusters rise high

3. With hair scattered so dates become
Unripe fruit not to be tasted!

4. It is not a word but the water of the two rivers
Has justice in its waves, oh peerless one

5. With ears on the banks
And truth has a cry that cannot be stifled

6. The number of stars will fall as victims
And your blood will flow in seas

7. The two rivers will flow like volcanoes
And seven layers will collapse in fire

8. The palms will march like a formidable army
Slapping the wind - their towering trunks

9. The marshes will scream with death
Choking until the noose tightens

10. Then Iraq will speak and its echo
Will give voice to every muted call!

11. Every word without your consent is hypocrisy
You alone are the voice and echo, oh Iraq

12. You alone are the voice for the oppressed like rain
In you is the wedding of blood, and you are the dowry

13. And the provoked peoples
You are the most precious blood they have

14. If you fall short every child in my land
Is an orphan, and every wedding is divorce!

15. Every star halts in its orbit
You alone are the shining planet now

16. You alone now fill the cosmos with fright
And annihilation fits you

17. The donkeys of hell, the vile hordes
And your murderers, and the sneering faces

18. The burning of children’s corpses
The kidnappers and the thieves

19. The wailing of women, the slaughter
Until blades and throats shudder

20. All will one day become
Whatever death, for whatever death is dealt!

21. Oh dignities of all my people that were trampled
And all that sowed discord

22. Among my people who made death rule them
So annihilation races towards them

23. You will not rest, for in my people’s blood
Is a pride that cannot be borne!

24. The severed heads thrown in every ravine
Will remain seeking their necks

25. And the day will come when every head rejoins
Its shoulders, oh Iraq!

26. The shattered souls will heal
And longing and compassion will return

27. That day every bullet fragment
Will be made to speak through interrogation

28. That day every drop of our blood
Will become an eye, though blind

29. History will be etched in blood
Until pens and pages tremble!
