1. O my master, by your right I have not ceased
To mention your beauty among people

2. I was not forgetful of your promise which is mine
It is all the wish, no but not the forgetful one

3. I have been extremely distressed by intention, as you have covered
My body with the worst dress of illnesses

4. So I am as if I am in the middle of winter, wrapped
In its heat, I imagine its smoke as my breaths

5. I had hoped to see you as a companion
To the most high presence, but alas

6. You busied yourself with another excuse, and for so long
A group of sitters has satisfied you with it

7. And I had stood at her door reciting poetry
Faithfully standing, not an hour of misery

8. O the agony that no lonely one tasted
Before me, nor passed by the hearing of my forgetfulness

9. By Allah, times have secretly passed
From the palm of an unjust, vile era

10. The eyes are forbidden to see you, separation is enough
I have extracted the good sleep from my eyelids

11. How long will separation that makes my looks desolate remain
From the intimacy of your nearness, O my wish of consolation

12. And for how long have my soul and passions
Wandered in the dawn and thickets

13. Layla bewildered eternally, so it is as if

14. I have in it a long remembrance and yearning
For the time of your nearness, without any limit to measuring

15. And for copying the prosody collection my worries
Have multiplied, so it has awakened my sorrows

While we are in the most difficult affliction because of it

18. If only there was someone who buys the good omen of my ascendant

19. Woe to me about the sight and hearing of time
For today it is blind to senses

20. Neither complaining nor sorrow works for it
And the injustice of a doubting tyrant is a affliction

21. Patience is a glory, but when it does not
Lead to destruction and waste

22. O you who by his likeness the nights did not find
For the Umayyads or Abbasids

23. You are the shining in knowledge and how much we see
For you evidence from the arena of paper

24. You are the one who comes to the guided torch-bearer
So he says take from illumination

25. In whichever craft you made him, if you said to one
Devoid of acknowledgment, the word has never been denied to you by a weaver

26. No man disputes you in prose or
Poetry except that he is anxious

27. An educated man does not equal one who drinks

28. I seek refuge for you not to be a helper
Of my time in aloofness and forgetfulness

29. My patience with what I suffer has worn me out
