1. The tears of the clouds pleased me in the night
Just as the cooing of the doves pained me in the morn

2. Thus my tears flowed in torrents
And my sorrow pleased the one who constantly loves me

3. O you who parted us, go slowly!
For I am lovesick for the son of generous men,

4. Muhammad Tawfiq, minister honored
Of character unlike any blameworthy trait

5. Whenever the radiance of his nobility flashed
I knew the cub was of lion ancestors

6. If your eyes looked at one his age in glory
They'd not see any to rival him

7. The king of the age endowed him the highest rank
And gave him a lofty position

8. So he became counselor while still a youth
Though in wisdom he's a prudent elder

9. Such is the full moon at its perfection
But between the two moons is a difference for the dimwitted

10. The moon of glories, its beauty has no wane
The moon of nights, its beauty isn't lasting

11. And God has mysteries - so many a young man
Has the knowledge of a scholar versed in problems

12. When Yas judged though young at arbitration
He was the most learned judge at reconciliation

13. While you see many old men ignorant
Wisdom's not in the turban or in years

14. God, the Wise, chose our prince
With the purest morals and the most solemn resolutions

15. Egypt will see him a glorious king
Taking her to the height of aspirations

16. And keeping the glories his father
Established for her and the generous achievements

17. He who builds to commemorate his family
Stars of guidance, a house of firm pillars

18. Glories wander whenever his name is praised
And mouths smile at the mention of him

19. For its hopes that his growth will increase
With gains that bear fruit and spoils

20. I see time has granted me every wish
Though long my dreams disobeyed the dreamer

21. Is this the last to make peace?
Is there none but a past foe to oppose?

22. We saw the son of the dear invested
With the grand ministry sought by the greatest

23. It came to him while each young man
Roamed around it confused and wandering

24. So it settled in his noble chest
With welcome and esteem far from blame

25. And in that honorable chest combined
The arts of Arabic and foreign tongues

26. In that beautiful face is the mark
Of nobility beyond any interpreter's tongue

27. His features in every gathering and club
Are what the caller extols or the guests revel in

28. If we praise him then we only
Unburden our hearts of sorrow

29. And make those who complain of time accept
What the Lord of the worlds has ordained

30. Indeed, blessed is the time that showed us Muhammad
Guided to piety and good deeds

31. He continues to gain through his aims
So his history will tell of profitable intent

32. May God maintain his sweet temperament and qualities
Is there more to wish after this?

33. May God ease your saying of his generosity
And the deeds that are nobler than twins

34. Not all whose conversation and looks entrance you
Will satisfy you in grand matters

35. May God continue the favor of his grandfather
And father whenever lightning flashes

36. And may he remain happy with the Eye of the Dear
And the family, flying in every season

37. So hear us, best of hearers
When we break or end our fast
